I listened to this podcast while driving, but with this one in particular I think seeing the stark honesty in Mr. Sursely's face about what he experienced adds such a dimension. Please, everyone. Don't forget the non-verbal communication - if you love an episode of the show, and this is one that I loved, try watching it instead. It's like having a seat at the table, rather than being a fly on the wall.

As a 6 yr old I would go up into my grand parents attic and get into my uncle's foot locker. He was a B-17 belly gunner and his locker had a German Army helmet and canteen. It also had his bomber jacket with his 22 missions, news papers from the time and stuff from England. He did mention getting shot down once but never talked about the helmet and canteen. Grandma told me the resistance helped him but thats all I got. A great man that influenced me to join the Army.

Love the podcast. Since you brought it up. All 6 of my Great uncles were USAAF with the exception of one Seabee.- grievously wounded on Saipan and dying less than a year later.-I’ve researched their history, these dudes were legit, pipe swingers . One was POW two were KIA. And the rest went one to live great lives, last of them -my Grandpa- died last month, Lefty’s Wolf pack. Check out Winged artillery. People still talk about Millennials like they are coming out of college. They are now in their 30's and 40's and well into their careers. They aren't the young bucks causing change and uproar anymore. People will always have issues with the younger generation because people in their late teens and early 20's expect a lot and don't realize that life is pretty shitty. People 30+ start to really understand that you grind like hell for a bit of satisfaction and all the stuff we put up on a pedestal as a kid and young adult is not that great and all the stuff we thought was boring and lame is actually kind of nice.

"...stepping on a landmine [while] checking the perimeter..." So just to confirm, whose mine he'd stepped on? To me it sounded like their own... F!ck! 😖😕 I'd imagine VC wouldn't be laying mines ahead of themselves around an American base? I agree with Echo, about his statement that one doesn't have to go down the path of alcohol and drug abuse, regardless the circumstances. From numerous podcasts and vet stories (amputee or not) you hear this same narrative of hitting the bottle to drown the post combat stress or physical pain of injuries. It sounds like that is the one and only impending non-negotiable option. And then there is this Man. "Don't need to!" Solid! Hats off to him! 👍👍👍

The Kids Nice what’s the point in you being a dick head about about it? What do you achieve out of being an asshole because I think Goggins would make good content and get good views? It would be good for this channel. Jocko would get positive results from it. Nothing I say is going to get through the thick skull of a typical internet troll so you can continue playing Call of Duty at your parents house and wait for the next comment to troll on.
