@Jim The Boomer Each Troop has its own SGM with MSGs running each Team within the Troop. Then there are Squadron Sergeant Majors for A, B, and C Squadrons, and finally a Unit SGM who is the senior enlisted advisor to The Unit Commander. Nowhere in Pat's bio has he claimed to have been The Unit SGM, unless I'm overlooking something. There are 3 layers of SGMs in The Unit, similar to an SF Group. In SF, you have Company SGMs who run the B Team, BN SGMs, and Group SGMs for each Group. The Unit has 3 Squadrons, each with several Troops, with several Detachments in each Troop. Detachments are run by MSGs and Captains like in SF. Pat was a Troop SGM and senior NCO in Training Det for OTC based on his own statements. He also ran the combat physical conditioning instruction in OTC. LAV was a MSG who also ran courses in Training Det. Kyle Lamb rose to Troop SGM towards the end of his career as well after doing some senior NCO leadership time in 1st Group, then went back to The Unit. He started out as a commo guy in the regular Army, went SF to 7th Group, went to CAG Selection twice, got into C Squadron before Mogadishu. Unit members rarely/almost never discuss composition, strength, or organization of The Unit.

I wasn't a Navy Seal or special forces or anything, but I was in the Navy in the 90s and I worked my ass off to learn what I needed to know to do my job right and I kept that attitude throughout my life to today, where I finished a bachelor's degree as a 48 year old father of two. My degree is in information systems, a hybrid of IT and business, and there is no better leadership model than Jocko, David Hackworth, and this podcast. Thanks for the lessons and inspiration.
