We should all start following Jock and Echo around when they travel just like the deadheads used to follow the Grateful Dead. Everywhere they stop, we'll set up outdoor gyms, sell workout stuff, wear all kinds of black workout clothes, play hardcore music, and generally Get After It. We'll bootleg their speeches and put them up on KZbin. Of course, our daily routines will be starting promptly at 4 A.M. ...

1:06:40 ... I had to stop and listen to this bit several times... This one stopped me in my tracks and its something that I need to work on a lot. "You are thinking defensively when you should almost always be thinking offensively." I do this at work, I unload trucks and stock shelves, I am constantly worried about doing things in order to get out on time when I should be just focused on getting the work done.

That rhythm stuff from 38:07 also applies to Olympic Fencing. If someone has a predictable rhythm or tempo in their footwork, you can easily disrupt them and make a touch.

To your point about the panellists on a channel vs a podcast, i have gleaned more insight from this first hour of your discussion than i Ever have from Any news outlet irrespective of their side of the aisle. Joko commentary is invaluable here. The one thing around 30:00 min in I noticed he mentions fighting with long sword and short sword. If I am not mistaken I think musahi original idea was to train with two long swords, one in each hand, so you can wield the long sword in both hand effortlessly in combat. Great book. Great commentary. Rock on.

I am not sure if Miyamoto wielded a Katana and a Wakizashi, since those 2 swords are the standard equipment for a samurai.

I like the water book in which this is written as so claimed by Musashi. Also, the void book and the ground book are very interesting too. If you've read lots of even western philosophy you can read between the lines and just see how advanced in knowledge about life itself Musashi was.

Yeah, Hagakure is a great book. But there's a one big problem: Yamamoto Tsunetomo never was in a battle or in fight or death duel. He had no credit to do some critisism he did in the book, for example critisism of 47 Ronin. He even did not commit seppuku although almost the whole book is about that. Still a great book about bushido to read. I've read it many times and it helps me a lot.
