The problem with broken trust is if someone breaks your trust then it kind of shows they didn’t think very highly of you to begin with. Watch them around someone you know they respect and you will see they treat you differently. If you work with someone like this, you still have to interact, but don’t give them any information you wouldn’t share with a casual acquaintance.

Jocko, I'd be willing to make the statement that Trust is THE MOST valuable aspect, and is the foundation of everything & anything else. Without a fundamental level of trust nothing moves well, things & people are always some degree of hampered, and society as we want it slowly gets eroded. Trust is Everything

I agree with you to a degree however, to trust anyone 100% makes you a fool, to believe that someone can infallible is ignorance to the flaws of human nature. Personal Integrity and honesty are the foundation that is voluntarily given, trust is just an paper thin expectation of the standard we set for others, waiting for a mistake to poke a hole in it, in my opinion.

The parable of the frog and the scorpion comes to mind. Plenty of people I don't trust along with industries. Chemical medicine would be a good example but at the same time, it has served me very well, especially the last few years. Best to move on and stay away from the untrustworthy. It's usually a character flaw and if you observe long enough you can catch it beforehand in how a person treats others before you become their next target. Keep the circle tight and trustworthy.

Part of a leader’s responsibility is to determine how much runway you give someone regarding their “lapses in judgement”. Maybe you don’t give big impactful projects to the new guy. Let him prove himself first on some simpler stuff. Maybe give him some opportunities on low impact activities to make some mistakes and learn. One flaw I’ve seen from leaders with an overly perfectionist mindset is they don’t give their people opportunities to learn and grow. They make snap judgements and discourage some really good people who just need some more experience. Then they wonder why they always have vacancies on their team and their progress overall has stagnated. If good intentions and high levels of effort are there then some coaching is always in order before losing trust in them. Sometimes the difference between failure and success is just a small nudge or pivot. Now intentional deception is of course completely different. That should not be tolerated at any level.

E.C. and Jocko, I went through an example of "lapse of judgement" I considered less bad because of the dynamic of the situation. Here me out... So I met this woman at a basic non-denominational church who was 25 and divorced at 22 only married for 11 months. She deliberately got another boyfriend while married as an excuse to leave the marriage. She purposely played the villain. Her reasoning is complicated. She was raised in a Russian Orthodox culture where you MUST get married, then came to the US and carried the culture here. 5 of her siblings got married very young and dated less then 6 months because their father nearly forced them all to marry quickly or else they were sinners. She says "that's just what I thought I was supposed to do" so she went to online dating and got married quickly. She moved to Virginia with her husband and deeply missed her Russian culture here in PA. I sympathized with her situation and gave her a chance with me... We lasted 4 months until she started missing her feelings for her ex/exes, so I couldn't fill the void for her and broke up with her, even though I truly cared for her as a human. I'm still sad and want to love her deep down but feel as if I would never be able to trust her because of what she's done. She likes the chase more than the prize of marriage is what I've decided. Even though she says she repented, she constantly said she "doesn't care to uphold the moral highground.". That seems like a dangerous philosophy to live by... also she wanted to have many kids with me and take them on "vacation" to Russia... They might have never came back because she loves Russia so much and disliked Americans and Ukrainians very much. But now I'm questioning my own decision to allow her into my heart and life for 4 months, only to end it harshly, breaking my own heart. Was my empathy destructive? What would you do in this situation? She struggled a lot with eye contact too so that was a red flag among many others

It depends on what you do and how severe what you did is. I believe it can be recovered if you play your cards right and own up to your error like Jocko said, I believe you can sometimes rebuild it fully and in rare cases, depending on how you manage it, the person can end up trusting you more possibly

When I caught my son ( at 4) lying…, I told him later that afternoon that I was taking him to McDonalds, and then I didn’t. He asked me “ Mommy when are we going to McDonalds “ , and I said “ Oh , we’re not going to McDonalds. I lied”. He immediately started crying and I said “ well that’s what you did to mommy isn’t it “? He said yes, and He never lied to me about anything again. * I think .😂 Trust is incredibly important in teaching your children the way to do the right thing. Love you guys!❤

Sorry what happened to you bro, remember you can completely heal and feel normal again. Check out Trauma Release Exercises (TRE), they were discovered by Dr. David Berceli. They use the body's natural mechanism to tremor out tension and trauma, eventually completely resolving chronic pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and other conditions after months or years. I recommend checking out a certified TRE practitioner, the longtermTRE community, and some videos to learn about it! If you start yourself, take it slow at 10-30 seconds every other day, less is more. Good luck, brother.

I think what you guys are talking about especially when it comes to "adults" is taking responsibility for your actions and an adult should really know better! Hold them to that standard, however each situation should be judged on its merit and be flexible accordingly. Now the younger they are it becomes a bit different in my opinion, because im more likely to give a youngster a pass, going by my own behaviour as a teenager and a young man, I try to remember what I was like at that age, and the shenanigans I got up to, but they're always must be some kind of consequence, but adults get one shot man, then your gone🤷🏼‍♂️

You are right, there is a class of humans who break another person's trust and don't care until it bites them in the ass. But by that time, I (or you) am long gone. In the crypto trading world is where these folks live. You will be asked to trust them with your money. If you do, Ask a bunch of questions, keep records, do not mix business and pleasure. Trust but don't trust. Don't be physically attracted to that hottie. Accept that you might lose everything plus more.. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I'll never interact with the crypto world again....
