When dealing with addiction, awareness plays one of the biggest roles towards your path to freedom. Many people want to 'quit' an addiction, but they are not yet aware as to WHY they actually want to quit. People don't quit doing something because they want to. They only quit once their mind is ready.

As someone diagnosed with autism I had to learn to not be my own type or friend. I can’t use my own sensitivities as a guideline for other people. If I have to constrain myself and my behaviour to my own sensory processing I won’t get anything in life. I’ll just stay too quiet. But that also requires me to “brain” myself trough social situations instead of being intuitive and that’s severely exhausting.
@carolynenochs9139

If possible, can you explain what you mean by your “braining” yourself and that’s extremely exaggerating to effectively communicate to others?

Be authentically who you are and you will find people who love you for you. Growing up with racism, I was told that who I was born as is wrong and there is a right way to be. I was taught to be who others wanted, and to disregard who I am. I had to relearn who I was, and, in the process, learned that other people did not know who they were. Therefore, I was told who to be by people who did not even know themselves, because it made them feel better about themselves.

@@carolynenochs9139 “Exaggerating” was a typo. I meant “exhausting” Autocorrect screwed me over without me noticing🤦‍♂️ it’s fixed… I think people who are neuro-typical and extroverted don’t need to “be in their head” that much because their natural impulses are attuned to people. For us autistic people we have to fight our natural impulses and act in social situations. It also requires me to be louder and more outgoing than I would like to be around myself. That’s what I meant to “not be my own type or friend”.

I get what you mean and it took me a long time to understand but as long as you want to have an equal experiences between people, you'll fail because everybody has different expectations from friendships. You can't copy the intuition of other people, you have to figure out your own social intuition

A lack of self awareness can make others interact with you in the way that you want, but completely unaware that that conditioning is not allowing the truth of them to come forward. Like a father that tells his kids or wife that their feelings are invalid, but then is surprised when he finds they’re depressed and anxious due to suppression and lack of support. His lack of self awareness would tell him it’s their problem for not expressing themselves the way he easily can and is completely unaware that his reaction to their truth makes them not say anything, and is ruining their trust. Narcissists do this a lot.
@g.swizzle

There's a concept in social psychology called deindividuation. It refers to the loss of self awareness especially when you're part of a group that promotes conforming to their norms, and it can lead to people behaving in ways they never would consider individually, and often increased disregard for how they would be individually evaluated. When people identify themselves as part of a group or even as anonymous, you tend to lose your self-awareness and become more of a social robot than an individual with values.

I think one of the few ways you can get credit, for some thing would be letting someone know about the life experiences and the things you learned from them. May not necessarily sound like bragging, Once they know all the hard work you had to put in to accomplish it. However, it should kind of apply to the situation at hand not just random topics spewed out. Being the person to help someone learn something faster than you had to,is the credit that you should be getting from it from yourself.

People are obviously going to cringe at this, But All this teaching on intent is really just The foundation of Christian principles that Christ came to display to the world. Grace-free and unmerited favor, doing something freely without the expectation of payback. -quid pro quo is the economy of the world. No person is capable of unconditional love without something worldly attached to it whether it be pride, greed, acceptance, meaning, or purpose.. Christ came to show grace And no one is able to give grace or show grace outside of a relationship with Christ himself. Because He ultimately frees us from oursleves by giving himself to us. So HE becomes our INTENT. That is what is meant by (Christ shall set us free) When he is your acceptance, Your meaning, and your hope You're now free to give GRACE. To love unconditionally because you no longer have to compete with the world because Christ gives himself too us freely If we repent and trust in Christ. So we all have some self-awareness problems....

It goes both ways guys. I have been diagnosed with hyper awareness and its fucking brutal. Extremely depressing living your life without any working copes. You know those little lies you tell yourself to help your self confidence? Yah, i dont do that. My inhibitions are so extraordinarily high that i dont do anything remotely fun or interesting. I weigh the risks and rewards in every single action i take in life. People hate hanging out with me because of this. They say im too logical and have the personality of a cardboard box. I wish i could have a little less self awareness tbh. I think it would help with my depression and anxiety. I wish my IQ was 20 points lower so i didnt have to live my life like this.

Positive reinforcement is also a driver, especially from a loved one, so I’m not on board with the example of cleaning the house for loved ones. Especially when a couple is raising kids, it’s a show of respect and gratitude and when dissed for effort to contribute towards the cleanliness of a household, that’s not cool…

I never thought I'd say this but wtf Jocko? This whole dialogue is like listening to someone who doesn't live in a capitalist society. The intention is to SURVIVE. You kind of need money and usually a job to ensure your own survival. "Your intentions aren't pure." What and you think all these CEO's have pure intentions? They want to get rich no matter who they have to crush in the process. And you expect the people being crushed to put their own survival second to "pure intentions"? Your role at work is to help craft your CEO's personal lottery ticket. That's it. The most important skill a worker can have is their acting ability, to be able to act like they give a flying fuck about "accomplishing the mission", i.e., making the CEO rich(er). Jocko has spent way too much time on the executive side of the table.

The notion that the world will notice you, acknowledge you, and promote you for doing the right things is complete bullshit. Jocko is a complete charlatan who years ago used his physical gifts to accomplish some tasks for the US government and now thinks as a result he is qualified to speak on areas of life he has never been involved in that operate under very different rules and guidelines. I'll tell you right now, ass kissers make it in the corporate world and being a hard worker who puts the team first just means you'll be putting in an extra 40 hours to pick up the slack your teammates drop on you. I have worked for several top 30 revenue companies in their corporate offices, both on technical and business side and so far it has been the same everywhere. Who get's promoted and recognized outside of your unit/team (and often within your team) is entirely political. People were hired and fired along racial lines, people were pushed out for daring to utter a word in contradiction to their boss, everything operated on rumors and back stabbing, etc. It was like a damn tv office drama and the whole time I was in the corporate space I could only think "Wtf are these people doing? Didn't anyone tell them we are adults and we need to act like we have some sense?". Most of my seniors were dying to exit or were just doing the bare minimum to stick around and get better retirement pay. Basically everything in this video is contradicted by all of my lived experiences and only applies in setting where people are intrinsically motivated to identify the best people and put them in charge i.e. a life or death situation. In modern life everyone is only looking out for themselves and their family and who can blame them when they work for soulless companies that would happily watch them die a painful death if it raised Q2 revenue?

What if your intent is good but you’re unaware that you’re coming off in a poor way. Example being kind but end up seeming like a kiss ass.

My Sgt Major used to ask us 'are you switched on'. Or when we obviously were not the NCO's under him would all say 'switch on!'.

A lot of marital distress is due to that lack of self awareness and that unmistakable “stench” that an unaware spouse brings into the home. Also, your intent needs to be between you and God. Seeking praise or managing your image shows a lack of maturity and a bad intent.
