Avid Jockstrap fan here. If you’ve never heard of Jockstrap before, listen to Concrete Over Water, The City, and 50/50. If you like those songs, you’re gonna want to listen to everything else because every song they create is nearly as good. The album as a whole might be an 8, but their ability to make music is 10/10.

@MORPHEUS 💯 they already do.. I had to laugh at Apple Music’s description of the band circa 2018, “the almost unthinkable fusion of 60s pop and avant-club”, as if it was remotely shocking to hear something like this in the late 2010s, or in 2022, let alone “unthinkable!”.. It’s not like this wild, eclectic, banger here, ballad there, is it ballad or banger(?), experimental pop/club gumbo is something that hasn’t been done before by many bands where that’s just what they are, it’s what they do,, and part of why people get into them.. it’s why I think they’re interesting, if not great. I hope they just build on this gumbo, not streamline it. Imo it would make them less interesting (sort of like James Blake’s career arc, where he was an OG in this world, but streamlined it down to more digestible and direct electronic pop/rnb). That’s my two cents… ✌️

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'm a little saddened by Grimes' trajectory in her career... I wish she would just return to the ways she had made music in Visions and Art Angels, free of distractions, negativity and bad juju from baby-making, artiste rivalry (Poppy) and cassa novas (Elon).

I've seen these guys 10 times live here in the UK, and not once do they disappoint, even if they don't engage with the crowd much. I thought this album was awesome, although I must say, I feel like they could have combined all their prior EPs and singles before 2021 into an album and it would result in a much stronger whole than this album, which I feel, contrary to their prior projects, doesn't push boundaries and rather just duplicates the boundaries that were already pushed before.

My favourites from the album are greatest hits, concrete over water and 50/50. Greatest hits is such a sublime piece of work. The rest are inventive, but can feel a bit jaring at parts, but I guess that's the whole selling point of their music - unexpected twists and turns. I do hope they leverage more on Georgia's vocals - I love her calls of 'Hello' and her vocal refrains throughout Debra, but the production is slightly too glitchy and hectic at times to warrant repeated listens.
