Many years ago I took my son to Lalapalooza for his first concert up at the racetrack in Charles Town West Virginia. It was the year that Metallica and Soundgarden were the headliners with Screaming Trees, Rancid, The Ramones and the Wu Tang Clan. But besides the big main stage were other smaller stages where all these unknown and up and coming bands were playing. One of which was The Beth Hart Band. She was so skinny and had a ripping 3 piece band behind her just tearing it up. And we stood there feet from this crazy women just amazed at her performance. They took a break between songs and Beth took a slug out of a water bottle and promptly spit the whole thing right on my son. Lol. His 1st concert story. I still laugh just thinking of it.

Only someone who has actually had their Heart Broken, can give a performance like that. Beth has put in the work on her voice, sang endless scales, learned the tools of the trade, but she brings more than Talent to the song, she Bares Her Soul, Shows the Scars,, and Re-Opens the Wounds and Bleeds for the Audience....

If a vocalist , can belt out a note, and drop the mic to the waist, and never change the volume, or key....that's greatness. ( see Elvis) auto tune is a travesty!

I've seen Joe in concert 4 times. He always has some of the world's best musicians on stage with him. I have tickets to see Beth in February. She is an amazing talent. Here covers of Etta James' classics are some of the best ever. Another great cover of Etta's songs is "Call my Name" by Morgan James. Both of these singers are stunning!

I think this version is even better than other versions of this song that Beth has done over the years. Her and Joe seemed to slow it way down which I think made it even more soulful.
