Another surprise performance at the Tribute to Nokie Edwards at CAAS. Joe Bonamassa joins Johnny Hiland for another song that Nokie recorded with The Ventures Bob Patin keyboard, Kerry Marx guitar, Matt McKenzie bass.

Will be recording and producing several originals for her, in addition to my own project which is underway. As far as dealing with local musicians I am so over all of it.Nothing but ego, arrogance, and cliques. Went and saw Robben Ford in concert last week. Why do i feel like johnny has practiced playing born to be wild every day for 20 years while patiently waiting for his opportunity to bring joe on stage and attempt to have a guitar battle... you can tell joe felt uncomfortable being up there.. very weird.
@graysenhagin10 ай бұрын
Johnny just learns every song in that manor. He always learns the melody to the tunes he knows and just in general has the chops and skill to play against Joe. I think it was a matter of Johnny sucking all the electricity out of the room by having some fun and it made Joe feel a bit less confident. I agree it was a bit weird to see Joe react that way but Johnny is a tough player and Joe is out of his element by stepping up to play with the band. It’s hard to feel confident in those situations. Just my thoughts

So here are two separate comments. As great as these two guys are I'm sure everyone has noticed the Godfather's influence; Mr. Eric Johnson. It's like listening to an encyclopedia of his licks and style. The nice thing is regardless of whose playing, that style always sounds so melodic. Second - check Joe's smile at 5:33 when Johnny Hiland hits that run. He's like " Holy ****!!" Joe seemed to play for phrasing more so than just flat out speed, nice touch. And yes near the end Joe was ready to be done. Either way it is great to see two tremendously talented guys playing at this level. Bravo!!

ok today: I just listened to a bit of “Secret Agent Man” (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmGyZKKCnrWijaM) and like the “Born to be Wild” video on this page, I hear no bass guitar or kick drum at all (and Johnny Hiland is not playing on the Secret Agent Man video). I can see that the bass player is playing and can see the kick drum head vibrate when the drummer kicks the bass drum, but no sound from either (on either of the recordings). Anyway, enough complaining… I enjoyed everyone’s performance (or at least everyone I could hear ;-) .

Lost the sound man of he was out taking a leak as the sound has no bottom end & it ain't the band . Poor Joe as awesome as he is just got taken to school by Johnny, only look on his face is that of bewilderment. No easy feat but that's Johnny take no prisoners Hiland. . I would never belittle Joe as he's one of the very best but some days one guy will be in the zone & the other hangs on. even though he's more than capable of lettin' it fly. Seemed to be the case here & you know for Johnny it was not intentional he was just in the zone . joe did just fine even if he seemed not so happy. Not normal not to see him smile . Whatever tribute to Nokie was just set aside for a few very fast moments. Great playing is always fun to behold.

I have seen Joe shred and play incredibly fast on many occasions. One of his mentors was Danny Gatton for goodness sakes so he has that capability. Joe is not trying to get into a wankfest with Johnny where Johnny is eager to grab some attention for himself by outshining a "guitar star". I don't blame him because Johnny Hiland is not exactly a household name where Joe Bonamassa is force in the blues and guitar communities. Joe is being cool about it and not trying to "outduel" the other guitarslinger. Class.
