I remember Jackie playing in the '55 WS. He was on 3B and every time that he got on base , he was always a threat to steal. He was fast and flashy. I love the way that he played.

Pretty bold format, especially for the times. Jackie handled himself well, per usual.

Jackie could've been the best politician ever! But I think being one of the best athletes in history will do!!

Jackie Robertson was a fine GENTLEMAN!

I'll bet Mr Robertson was indeed a fine gentleman - and so was Jackie Robinson.

Jackie felt he was losing his baseball skills at 38 but being traded to the Giants really must have hurt him bad and felt it was time to get out he could not see himself playing for a team he fought so hard against in the past

According to his wife, Rachel, the trade to NY had everything to do with Jackie retiring. He was deeply hurt to be treated like property, and insulted to be traded to Brooklyn's arch rival. That vid is here on YT, btw.

It's interesting you hear the words "newspaper men," instead of the word "media."

I think the recording quality of this old kinoscpe didn't really capture the helium-impacted voices well.

Once upon a time professional athletes were a well spoken bunch. Thiss video proves it. Nowadays they're hard pressed to put together three coherent sentences.
@wiedep12 жыл бұрын
as is now, some are well spoken some are not. Jackie had a college education, many athletes could not afford the cost or the years in school when offered a pro sports contract.

Especially interesting to watch... knowing that segregation was alive and well.

Yes I was thinking about live TV and the varying views of the audience.

Not as many people in the 50s was as racist as you think much of the racism took place in the south as you mentioned segregation places like New York City Los Angeles and other major cities were very much against segregation
