Thanks Dave for this. Many was the night we were entertained by Joe Hall at the Squires Tavern in Ottawa. Then he just disappeared.

Ha! I used to see them there too, a great bar with nice vibe. They were a very skilled band led by an amazing frontman.

In my search for sad songs (Preparing to Begin) I found this and laughed. Oh the memories. My ex-boyfriend once gave Joe Hall a guitar because JOE DIDN'T HAVE ONE (and my ex had six.) Thanks for this great stuff. Anyone know where/how to find Preparing to Begin?

Sometimes you glimpse the zeitgeist out the corner of your eye - and sometimes it accosts you head-on yelling "BOOOO!" Like here. And there is something truly scary about Mr. Hall and his brigade of unfettered self-determinants. Same scariness sensed in Dan Hicks' band (American counterparts). Mind you - I will now forever associate this tune w. CBC's 'Basic Black' on which the host played it every chance he got - in turn the inspiration, I think, for The Great Eastern & "Pepito El Grande".

I love the shit out of this song... genius. This performance is consumingly brilliant with just the right amount of clever pizazz. Oooooeee, oooooeee, oooooeee. What a delight!
