Thanks for sharing this info, I’ve pretty much always trained open loop - automatic movements and muscle memory.

Open loop systems are one that do not take into account error from the goal. Example, I want to move 20 ft forward, each step is two. Take 10 steps forward. At 10 steps you should be 20 ft forward, but every step is imprecise and contains some amount of error. So you might need to take more or less steps, or bigger or smaller steps, to end up 20 ft away. Closed loop systems take into account error, and specifically error over time, to make adjustments to reach your target precisely. It will take larger or smaller steps, as you approach the target, so that you are precisely 20 feet away from where you started. When professional athletes perform a skill, you would think that they would make fewer corrections as a skill is being performed compared to an amateur. In reality the professional makes an order of magnitude or more corrections during the skill so they can precisely perform their goal each attempt. The amateur golfer just swings the club like they know to swing the club. The professional golfer swings the club and makes hundreds of tiny small changes so that they hit the ball precisely where they want how they want with as much power as they want. The amateur does not make the same number of corrections to their swing to get the exact same hit as a professional. Hope that clears things up for some people.

Your comment was open loop, just a reaction. Too many thoughts. Not enough thinking….. It’s a shame you don’t understand.

Don’t understand why he makes this out to be so difficult, I started archery 2 weeks ago and shoot with complete control of the shot, I even watch my arrow in flight. It’s all bullshit.

Nothing really. JRE fans tend to lead credence to a lot of pseudoscience and “experts” on made-up/unimportant subtopics of unpopular/off-beat hobbies such as archery, MMA, guns, hunting etc. The result is you get below average intelligence people inventing concepts such as “open and closed loop systems” to make what the subject they are talking about sound scientific/technical. In reality it is all nonsense.
