It's very hard to say exactly why we are seeing a few more broken legs. My theory is that as leg kicks have increased in popularity among fighters over the last few years, the broken bones have followed. Some of these kicks are bone on bone and are extremely painful, but an experienced fighter will never wear the pain on his face right after it happens. Leg kicks serve the exact same purpose as a jab. If leg kicks and jabs are done correctly and repeatedly, at the very least, you can effectively keep your opponent at a distance. But at the most, you can actually take your opponent out with them. A good hard jab will break a guy's nose or other parts of the face. A good leg kick will break a guy's leg. But then there is the flipside- a good hard jab can break the hand of the guy throwing it and a good leg kick can break the leg of the guy doing the kick. So it works both ways.

It makes sense that leg breaks are getting more common. With the calf kick revolution going on in MMA, legs are being put more at risk than ever, plus more fighters are focusing on checking leg kicks than ever before. It actually makes perfect sense when you think about it.

It also makes things more scary, imagine if half of the roster ends up breaking their legs due to their calf kicks being cheked.
@daud78273 жыл бұрын
fighters have always focused on checking leg kicks.. so no it doesnt make sense like you said
@jamesedward36193 жыл бұрын
@@daud7827 Yeah man, they've always focused on checking leg kicks for sure. But just not to the extent they are now. Calf kicks are so dominant in the meta at this moment in MMA history that most strategies right now revolve around either exploiting them or neutralising them. Throughout MMA history, kicks have always played a big role of course, but they've usually been as much of a focus as each other element (or maybe less so than grappling at many points). This is the first time, to my memory, that kicks have dominated the meta to the extent they do. If before, fighters were focusing 33% on arm strikes, 33% on leg strikes, and 33% on grappling; at this moment it might be something like 25% arm strikes, 25% grappling, and 50% leg strikes. You're right that it's always been a focus, but the reason a lot more leg breaks are happening right now is because there is an increased focus on kicks than ever before.
@daud78273 жыл бұрын
@@jamesedward3619 sorry dude but absolutely no way its 50% on leg kicks and 50% everything else come on
@jamesedward36193 жыл бұрын
@@daud7827 I'm just estimating bro. Not trying to be precise. I'm just saying, there's an increased focus on kicks now as opposed to ever before. Could be more like an increase from 33% to 40%, or 33% to 35%. The percentage isn't really possible to deduce with precision, and it's not even really my point. I'm just making the point that there is at least somewhat of an increased focus on kicks right now, which explains the increased number of leg injuries recently.
