The 56:00 to 58:00 2 minute story where the guest shares about the large mass ascending in the water and then descending back down was the most fascinating part of this entire, very intriguing, interview. I want to hear from that guy too. That is a hair raising story and makes you wonder more about what is really underneath the surface of the oceans.

Commander Fravor was on a 6-part PBS series called “Carrier” which was filmed during the deployment that the Nimitz went on right after the training mission where this encounter took place. On one episode, the Nimitz was doing air ops on seas that were pitching up to 30 ft. They ended up canceling the ops but then had to recover the planes that had already launched (and do it at night). Fravor took an F/A-18 up to refuel the jets that were having trouble getting back on the boat, and he was the last plane to get back on board. Trapped on his first try. He was a pretty bad ass aviator.

How does a f18 fighter jet refuel other jets???
@r12e5p3 жыл бұрын
@@noway57 Rhinos doing tanking missions is a regular part of carrier air ops. Plenty of photos and videos of the process on the interwebs. They’ll usually put two (and as many as five) external tanks and a “hose-and-drogue” on the plane, and it refuels other planes the same way any other tanker would. That being said, the Navy is looking at shifting that mission to the MQ-25 UAV or the COD version of the V-22 Osprey to cut down on wear and tear on the F/A-18s.
