As someone in the UK, the BBC flat out said that if someone dies and is tested for COVID, if they had COVID, then its reported on the death certificate and included in the "daily death toll" they used to run. It was so conflated, especially when everyone I met didn't know anyone on a ventilator - not to say that anyone wasn't, but the numbers just didn't add up - especially if I live in the region (10 mins from the hospital) where the first repatriated citizens of the UK, from Wuhan, were quarantined.
