Joe Rogan knows a whole bunch about MMA history, but when it comes to present day MMA, he doesn't know most fighters on the prelims, probably doesn't watch UFC cards unless he is there live commentating, gives takes like these and there don't seem to be many pro's. He just blatantly forces an over reaction to big fight finishes, diagnoses fighters with injuries they don't have, talks about calf kicks and steel cups. Nothing else.

Isn't that why JR's role is labeled as the "color" (or "colored"?) commentator? He's a comedian; he's good at stringing together a whole bunch of nonsense or disparate things, events, and individuals.... with all the eye-popping, crazy hand, arm, and leg gestures.... THAT is entertainment. The UFC's first and last goal is to entertain. People want to be entertained, in all kinds of ways... not just by watching two guys kicking each other's nuts or poking each other's eyes or endless doing hugging sessions on the mat.

He's also infuriating whenever an underdog is performing well. He says stuff like "look at this" in a high pitch voice like he's watching child taking their first steps The other day Grasso hit Val with a decent shot in the first round and Rogan was screaming "Ooooooooh" like it was Cro Cop head kick

Man you gotta talk about how often Joe Rogan constantly reminds people how he is a legitimate life long martial artist, and lives that hardman lifestyle. He had Huberman on the other day and went in on him about the temp of his cold plunge. He then delivered a speech about how he has a just do it attitude and how he lives for discomfort. No Rogan you’re a rich old man with posh fancy gadgets, and u did a bit of point touching taekwondo when you were a kid. I feel like he’s compensating for the fact that he never fought in a true blood sport like MMA or Muay Thai

No, it would all be dumb. Even saying it about Usman. GSP was simply another breed and more well-rounded than any in his weight class even today. He'd smoke every one of them and only a few could keep up with him but they would still take an L. Also GSP fought 7 years ago, not 20. It's not as though he's been out of the freakin' thing for decades.

Nothing new. Joe Rogan is very two-faced individual who plays nice-nice but then talks behind backs of someone who he was nice to the face of. He can also be a real bully to someone on his show who doesn't have much status and Joe's brain calculates there is more to gain from being mean to them. Typical traits of the sort of celebrity personalities who social cimb, Machiavellian Dark-Triad and all that. It gets people places, but it doesn't get them respect of the real, like Guru earns for saying stuff like it is.

Imo a majority of fighters are better but when it comes to welterweight and above the guys didn't improve exponentially like other weightclasses. GSP was also middleweight champ like 7 years ago where he schooled Bisping. I also think that when we say fighters are better now we mostly refer to how good the bottom and middle level fighters and some top level fighters are much better.

The advocation for fighting without a cage is so stupid. The cage is meant to keep them fighting instead of running. But more than that, Joe implies it would be more realistic. No it wouldn’t. Overwhelming majority of street fights or fights in general involve some form of obstacle. How many fights do you see where someone gets pushed up against a car, a wall, a table/chair etc. The only places a fight could take place without something mimicking the cage would be a field or the center of a gymnasium or something along those lines
