There’s a girl at my Muay Thai gym who thinks she’s all Bangkok ready cause she yells “oooeee” after every strike & wears Thai shorts. She likes to swing wild on everyone but if we touch her the coach gets mad. One day she was tapping me w kicks (like chun li just sticking her leg straight out & repeatedly tapping her toes on my thigh) & I told her if she did that in a fight she’d get swept. She was like “it’s ok you can’t check”, so the next time she stuck her leg out I grabbed it & swept her right on her back. She was like “that’s not how we spar” & the coach pulled me aside & was like “do we have a problem here?” This is the attitude toward female fighters. Inflated egos cause they’re protected in the gym & no technique cause the coaches are focused on diddling them instead of training them.

Man I have been lucky with my MMA gyms. When I still lived in Flanders (now in the Netherlands) 2 women at some point wanted to try out MMA, the MMA coach told em it's maybe a bit too touchy and too rough and all for them, so they should try out the Muay Thai training. So they did, but never came back. In one of my gyms in the Netherlands we very rarely have women joining too, once I had to partner up with one, we had to throw a kick and then the other had to catch it and do a takedown. Well, my leg on itself was almost bigger than her and when she held it she nearly fell down herself, so I had to practically take myself down to the ground.

I remember when women first started competing in the UFC. They were so terrible but the fights were super entertaining because they went at it and scrapped with each other knowing that they had something to prove and fought a chip on their shoulders. I may not always agree with Guru, but I admire that he's not afraid to speak his mind and say what many of us have been thinking. I'm not saying the athletes he's discussing should be disrespected as people but the points he raises are valid. The one thing that's become undeniable is the rising prevalence of stalling that keeps happening in WMMA fights in the UFC. Look at Rose/Esparza, Dumont/Chiasson, Holm/Veira, Ricci/Viana etc etc It keeps happening that one or both athletes don't want to engage and either get on their bike like rose or stall by clinching like Holm and Chiasson where both didn't want to engage their opponents who were actually trying to fight.

The biggest problem with women's sports in general, is that most of them keep all the parameters the same as men's sports. And because they are nowhere near as good physically, it just becomes a crappy show. Women's mma should only be 3 min rounds. There needs to be a sense of urgency, it needs to be chaotic. The lack of skill can be circumvented by an increased in unpredictability and chaos. You can only go all out if you got stamina, and 25 mins is too much. 9 mins for normal fights and 15 for main events. I think that should help raise the entertainment a lot

Most women mma fights are terrible and most of the fighters are coddled and terrible. Like Joanna vs Weili was one of the best fights I've ever seen, but for every woman fight like this there are 100 that are bad. UFC should introduce a 3 strike boring fight system. Where if a significant strike isnt landed or the fighters are standing at range doing nothing, they get 1 strike after a certain point. 3 strikes and the fight is ruled no-contest.

The last two Namajunas fights have been at the exact same time as when Canelo is fighting....which is perfect since I can halt watching the mma and watch the Canelo fight. Sometimes you need to realize the positives. The bar turns volume on for the UFC to volume on for the Canelo fight and when the Canelo fight ends they put the volume on for Usman/Covington and Oliveira/Gaethje. Strategic !!! Everyone’s missing the reason why Dana/UFC were happy about Rose/Esparza: CHINA MONEY. By leaving with the belt somehow and getting Rose out of the picture, Esparza became a sitting duck for Weili to swoop back in and take the belt. UFC wants the belt on her to help expand in China, they needed Rose out of there for that to happen cause Weili was 0-2 against her, this was the best case outcome for business 2 moves ahead.

The problem with WMMA is the overall shallow talent pool. If you scout through Tapology's regional rankings, scouting for what female fighters may be on the way up, a very clear picture emerges: First of all, you have no female regional rankings seperated by weight class. You just have one general category, labled "women". There simply aren't enough to warrant rankings seperated by weight class! And still there is no depth. The US Southwest rankings, for example, show 105 women (including amateurs) vs 1.879 men. The p4p list of the Midwest women is led by a 6-4 fighter! And she is already fighting for Bellator and/or Invicta. It doesn't look much better in other regions.

The problem is there is a way smaller pool for wmma, because the proportion of women that do mma to men is like 20 to 1, but the ufc is still signing a large quantity of women for some reason (about 2 men to 1 woman if you factor in the fact that, not counting FW, they only have 3 divisions, even though it should technically be 20 to 1), which means they’re going to be getting way lower level fighters just to fill up spots. Based on the ratio of women actually doing mma professionally to men doing it professionally, to have the same “quality control”, there would be a total of about 9 or 10 women in the entire ufc, which wouldn’t even be enough for a division with a top 15, let alone 4 divisions If you got the 10 best/most entertaining female fighters, then i’m sure their fights would on average be way better and probably on par with men’s mma, but the problem is not many women are even doing mma so the ufc ends up signing a bunch of low level amateurs basically, like imagine if the ufc had 10x as many male fighters, the lower level fights would be terrible because they’d be signing regional fighters with almost no experience
