As a furry, I could probably tell you one thing that is not happening in mass at conventions and that's sex in fursuits. Not saying it hasn't happened but you're dropping almost 2k on a fursuit and any kind of strenuous activity would kill you with heat exhaustion. Not to mention ruin a 2k suit. My average time at a convention is spent hanging out with strangers that are like minded, sometimes I go into the board game room, plus there are a lot of pretty awesome panels that go on and even one that taught about bee keeping.

The community is pretty well known for its extremely good artists, like some of the art pieces that come out of the community are extremely good. However you don't need to be an artist to be a part of the community, nor do you need an original character of your own, which the community calls fursonas. At the end of the day it is simply a hobby, the vast majority of the community are pretty much regular people, and those that own fursuits are a small minority due to their cost if one where to commission it.

As an ex furry who sometimes interviews current furries for fun I can give some layers to it, but by no means am I going over the entire way too deep culture of them. Some things I'll gloss over: controversies, amino, subsect cultures (Google Nazi furs for a little taste, but by no means do they represent the whole community), etc. Fair warning there is a reason I say ex-furry (45-50% of the fandom) SFW art furries: people who enjoy the art, maybe the do some roleplay in private chatrooms, type cringey things in public chatrooms I.E. uwu, murr, hehe~, *nuzzles*, *pounces*, x3 (to those who think that's familiar there's a reason they were in the copy pasta), maybe experiment with headband ears or make-up, no fursuits... yet Overall: harmless, weirdos, and social outcasts, but not really different from your average internet user (15-20% of the fandom) NSFW art furries: weirdo territory really begins, enjoy the porn, escalate their rp to be sexual, type cringey or sexual things in public chatrooms, know wayyyyy too much about animal anatomy, start buying certain toys, maybe a tail buttplug to escalate their dress up, still no suit Overall: kinda creepy, weird, maybe smelly if you meet them in public, but not different from your average porn addict (35-40% of the fandom) Fursuiters: These are the folk that regularly go to cons, they can range from cheap suit or partials that costed less than $500 to some that cost more than $20k loaded with LEDs, servo jaws, servo ears, magnet eyes, magnet claws, and specialized vent holes because they're hot (worn one but never owned one), they have serious debates about four finger gloves or five finger gloves as well as digitigrade or plantigrade feet, suspiciously wealthy or talented individuals Overall: strange, pleasantly kind, social outcasts (hence the anonymity), evolution of the sfw art furries normally. These are the first step outside of comparable range, but for the most part they are fine people, just a strange hobby (5-10% of the fandom) Mursuiters: I felt uncomfortable typing their title so here we go. They do similar things as fursuiters but typically with the more express purpose to have sex with other furries, these are the ones you hear about with the litterboxes and dog bowls, they have specially designed suits with holes, breasts, butts, wearables, and God knows whatever else they wanted, these suits tend to start closer to $1k and up to $10k (why is the upper limit typically cheaper than the fursuiter? Because the fursuiter cares about the camaraderie, art form, and expression. The mursuiter cares about sex, augments, and overall horny side of the furries.), they're also the ones who typically get all the furries in trouble at conventions for doing disgusting or obscene things in public or in hotels, some conventions have actually put in policies that will permanently ban you if you are caught doing things like these ones do Overall: kinda scary, somewhat unhinged, I have never met one that hasn't creeped me out or wasn't absolutely hypersexual to the point of addiction (Unknown percent of the fandom) Otherkin: These are people that aren't true furries but typically stem from them and can come from any range of the previous tiers and typically show signs of severe or growing mental illness, they genuinely believe that you can be trans species and are more prominent among younger people who have been lead down this rabbit hole of a few older weirdos that the kids parents were not careful or smart enough to teach the kid to avoid on the Internet, these are the ones that hiss at you even when not in suit Overall: kinda sad when you think about them, very strange, most need serious help or discipline Conclusion: Furries are a strange breed. I've met some as old as sixty that were some weirdos, but pleasant to talk with. While I've met others younger than me with horrific disgusting fetishes and deeds beyond the worst thing you can imagine. Not all furries are degenerates, but the trend I've seen is: the younger they join the easier they are to corrupt, the later they join the more tame they tend to stay, the longer they stay the less likely they are to leave, and the longer the corrupted stay the more corrupt they become. Don't take my word for all furries, it's a strange and highly complicated culture ranging from those who just think a cartoon dog profile picture is cute to those who make conspiracies to attack prominent members of the fandom so take it as you will and if you're curious do your own research.

The whole point is that furries _already_ are everywhere, but you don't notice because furries aren't going around screaming "I'M A FURRY LOOK AT ME I'M SO QUIRKY" like some people think, hell I believe there's at least a 50% chance you'll interact with at least one furry per day by just going outside a bit, and you won't ever realize. I'm a furry and, as far as I know, noone between those I personally know have any idea because I, like probably most furries, keep it to myself. Also it's not purely sexual in the slightest, I just like looking at cute animal drawn to look like humans.

The whole purpose of school is to teach children to advance in society and hone their natural talents. How does a “kitty litter box” in a restroom help that? If that student wants to do furry role play stuff then do it at home/in private. Schools shouldn’t encourage behavior that distracts from the students becoming productive and prepared for the real world. Because realistically no company is going to just put a litter box in their restrooms because in the real world people don’t care about what you identify as they’re going to just fire you if you do stuff that disturbs the staff and customers in public. Stuff like this shouldn’t be encouraged because the student is going to grow up thinking it’s normal then have a hard time adjusting when people push back against their abnormal behavior in adulthood.

As a gay man (not all of us are) who associates with the Furry Fandom, I can agree with the whole "pinch of truth" explanation for this. Sure, there are multiple strange and potentially regrettable sides to the community, but that can be applied to nearly every social community in existence. We are just one of many who wish to enjoy spending time with people who use a similar creative outlet. The fandom spans over a large range of ages; sex in the community is a thing, but the large majority of the time, responsibly handled and only amongst consenting adults. Viewing this community from outside can be considerably strange, and confusing, but mostly wholesome and positive. We rarely restrict people from creating and integrating their own ideas into the fandom, whether it be a small faction or a different form of character (we call fursona), people have the freedom to create what they wish; but with that freedom bring the oddities that gain attention with the people who haven't given the Furry Fandom the time to understand who we realistically are.

I won't say it's inherently "wrong" to be fascinated by anthropomorphic animal people or whatever, but when people start getting weirdly sexual about it, I start questioning things. at the end of the day they're still animals, so I can't even begin to imagine what's going on in people's heads when it comes to that...subject😓🤷🏻‍♀️

Then why not asked us ? It’s not like we kink shame or are shy about that kind of stuff. First people need to understand when we talk sexuality there are sexual orientation and then the anthro thing. A lot of people join the fandom to be more themselves because they are part of lgbt. Now for the anthro kink, we don’t see anthro characters as animals, animals don’t talk, dress up then go to work, an must importantly animals can’t consent ! Also they more human than they look animals. I’m a vet student so you are not going to explain me the anatomy, anthro character have an human anatomy except for the head. If we were talking about feral stuff like the lion king so yeah I would agree with you it is weird. I draw NSFW but I don’t do feral because I don’t want to deal with zoophiles, it’s seem like they love us for some reason, like we are the same when we clearly not. It’s always funny to me that’s normies see like no distinction between us and them when we clearly put more of them in jails than normal people do… If you have questions ask away.

Furries tends to not judge people so we have a lot of lgbt I think like 80% of us are, must of us have a fursona (avatar), it’s suppose to be a mixe of who you are and who you want to become, when you see furry character they suppose to represent the person behind, lgbt can express themselves with those fursona without being judge. I don’t understand how people love Latina girls either but that’s ok we all are different and if it’s 2 consensual adult then people shouldn’t give a dam. We talk about furries but to be true they are more normal people who watch furry porn than furries. Must of my no-furries friends have at list one crush on an anthro character that’s has nothing to do with furries… and I’m not even talking about sextoy animals tails and hears 😅 I think everyone talking about us because we don’t really hiding it.

If you want some real problem in the furry fandom I recommend you LagoVirt video, he talk only about the furry fandom problem including the zoophile one, because unfortunately they are still among us.
