Joe Perry plays guitar like he’s having a conversation with the instrument. It’s laidback. It’s lyrical. And he listens to everyone else in the band. He’s a teammate. That’s what I learned the most from studying his guitar playing.
@matthewandrews388323 күн бұрын
This might be controversial but I was asked once who's the greatest guitarist ever. The people were assuming I'd say Jimi Hendrix, or Stevie Ray Vaughn or someone like that. Nope. I said Joe Perry without hesitation. Nothing against those other guys. They were great, but Joe still is great. He's been great for 50 years!

Nope. Back in the '70s all the guys wanted to be Joe Perry. Everyone realized that being Steven Tyler would require too much work on a minute-by-minute basis. Being Joe Perry meant that you can just stand there and own the room. Everyone who straps on a guitar wants to be Joe Perry. They may want to play like Hendrix, or Van Halen, or Clapton, or Beck, or Malmsteen, or whomever, but they want to *be* Joe Perry.

I think I found Aerosmith's legendary " sound". Whenever I feed my cat dinner, she's so excited she's running by my feet. 99 percent of the time, I'm able to deftly move out of her way. Last night, however, I stepped on her by accident. She wasn't really hurt, but the cry she let out made me realize that it essentially was the Aerosmith " sound".

@Riff51504 жыл бұрын
That’s my opinion too. It’s also my favorite of theirs followed by their debut album
@SahiraSound Жыл бұрын
Seriously! Get your wings was phenomenal for so many reasons. Although songs like same old song and dance got all the love, for me it was the dynamism in songs like Lord of the thighs and spaced that really shone. Most people don't know this, but it was Brad whitford that pulled the lead on those two songs, he was doing some guitar work that still echoes through my mind today, he had some seriously tasty licks in there with what I would call the best Jeff Beck influences I've ever heard. His scales and tremolo work were just superb! And then of course, songs like Woman of the World really allowed Steven to stretch out lyrically, and I feel like Aerosmith really defined their sound with Seasons of Wither and then nailed it down with Pandora's Box. Although I loved all of Aerosmith's first generation work, Get Your Wings will always be special to me because it's where they found their voice.

I started once to develop something of a dislike for Steven Tyler because it has to be admitted that it could be possible for him to seem or come off as or to be perceived as being pretentious and-or a braggart but I was saved from that misconception when it began to dawn on me that he's actually a talented, intelligent, really good regular guy who's just 1) High-strung naturally like myself and that's been compounded by a lot of years living a high paced, sweat it out, work your ass off giving people a good show every night on stage, musician's lifestyle and 2) He's also sometimes a little disconnected and-or flighty in his speech patterns and train of thought and I think ( having seen the same thing in a relative of mine) that that could very well be due to the alcohol consumption over the years. So, nowadays I know better how to take the guy and I actually like him as a person as well as as a performer and I'm of the opinion now that he's a good egg really, lol, and he's actually probably a real sweet guy and good friend and good father when it comes down to it. I'm glad that I didn't jump to conclusions and took time to hear him out more so that I didn't miss out on hearing some things he's had to say and it would actually be cool to meet him someday.

Let's put the Joe Perry love in check. He was trying to emulate Johnny Thunders since early on. They were both on the same label, but they gave Aerosmith all the promotion. Dolls were sacrificed for these guys. Joe got Johnny's hair and guitar style, and Tyler got Johansen's scarfs.
