Joe is an example of a genuine villain while still remaining polarizing, because on one hand, people in the audience that don't support the idea of a purge will use him as a demonstration of why it's wrong, while people in the audience that *do* believe in the purge will want to purge him. It's brilliant -- either you make him the villain in people's minds, or you turn the audience into the villains, but either way, *they're still getting off on it*. Either you're part of the blue bus (and horrified as a victim), or you're Joe, but either way, *Joe works* , because the people that are against him are watching the wolves in the audience howl, and the wolves in the audience are getting off on watching all the people that are horrified (just like Joe). Additionally, he feels like the inevitable representation of the legal system and justice system as a whole. Keeping them in a tiny prison small enough to be kept in a cinematography shot is especially brilliant symbolism, because it reminds us how the legal system got this way to begin with. The "Forever Purge" is already happening, every day, when people are sent to prison by people like Joe, that don't think it's their responsibility to build a more just world, only to make sure the wrong one isn't built in "their backyard". By looking at Joe, we not only acknowledge the present evil of the reigning body, but how a reigning body so evil and vile came into existence to begin with, not by demanding that Joe be stopped, *but by wanting to see it happen by virtue of self-indulgence*. I.e., the audience, sitting here, waiting, with the blue bus feeling like the inevitable victims waiting to be saved, and the Joe's in the audience waiting for the blood. Just like Joe's sense of justice, it's not about making the world a better place, it's about sitting through hours of buildup so you can feel a sense of vengeance (because even when it's not real, admit it, you like feeling it) or security (because even though you could walk out of the theater, you're going to suffer the rest of the movie like a victim, rofl). He's a villain with revenge fantasies in an audience polarized on revenge fantasies. And I find that deliciously diabolical.

Rick is the only one that wronged him. How can you be so childish? Otherwise, he killed a nurse because she told him has father was terminally ill. Penelope didnt say thank you. Jane walked out on a date that he was racist and $exist on, and paid for it so it wouldnt be an issue. His bully was what 10-12? He is a different person now, he is a homeless guy who didnt bother anybody. His boss let him go because her boss told her to. I swear, whyte men are childish, psychos who cant let stuff that means nothing go 🤦🏾‍♀️

Though I have never watched any of the purge movies I can Empathize with Judge Joe Owens. Confessions are one thing as far as a fair trial I don't know if it's really a fair trial going on but definitely a reckoning a call of accounts. I don't agree with the purge but where the system fails justice still has to be done but not like this unless it's especially a grievous matter

If you had watched the series you'd know that Joe Owens is completely psychotic. One of the girls is there because they had a bad date, and another is there because she didn't thank him for holding the door open. He claims its 'fair', but he'll just end up killing everybody regardless of what they say. It's all just a sick game to him.
