I have followed Joe since the early days when Surfing came out.....and of all his albums, I find the Extremist to be the greatest also. It has stood the test of time. Flying In A Blue Dream is why I started playing guitar, but Extremist is beyond instrumental guitar and into something of legend!

I used to play in a Satch tribute band called, "Lords of Karma." Eh, like 92 - 93 just after the Extremist came out. My fav. to play off Not of This Earth was definitely, Hordes of Locusts. We'd play at jam nights and people were like, "WTF is this?" Ah, the good old days.

I was blessed to be able to meet him in person after a show in 2006 and Eric Johnson in Atlanta, both and walked away more amazed by his humility in person same with Johnson, and very relatable. Love him even more now than before.

Joe and Steve should have an instrumental rock station on Sirius/XM. I would keep it on all the time. They can play their songs plus classics like 3rd stone and Frankenstein, Orion, Eruption, And all the legendary rock songs that get lost but people love!

I remember seen him live in Athens, Greece, late '80s or early '90s, something I wouldn't expect to happen! Of course I ran for a ticket when I heard it and went to the venue. A couple of years later Steve Vai came and I went there, too! Good experiences to see those players perform live in front of you.

I bought Joe's 1st record the day it came out. He is the first Rock guitar player to write Rock instrumentals over an entire album and at the same times re-invent the guitar approach. A true visionary man and player. God Bless you Joe.

I lived in Germany in the army in a small town called Schlicht. I used to drive in listening to Joe. I was drawn to it because of the originality and the different effects being used. I love all kinds of foot pedals and synthesizer sounds. Joe has something to show the world.

Satch, was one of my main influences for picking up the guitar. When I actually got to see him live, was on the "Flying In A Blue Dream" tour...way back in 1987....in Charlotte, NC. I was 17 then. Seeing Joe, live was a dream come true. 🎵🎶🤟🤟

My Joe story - big fan as an 18 year old around 1988 - 1989. Worked at a Camelot Music store outside of Nashville at the time. I talked the manager into ordering several copies of Surfing With the Alien because I knew it was gonna be a hit. But this was before it broke out. A few weeks go by and the boss is a little ticked off that it wasn’t selling. Then the song broke out and we sold every copy in a weekend. Joe was playing the Exit Inn that year and I got my ticket- I was pumped! Went to Cat’s Music and met him and Stu Hamm - got the cd sleeve autographed - met the legend - he was cool! Went to the show that night and… got thrown out for being under 21 before the show even started! Man I was so bummed - I had told everyone who came in that store about him and felt like they got to see him and I didn’t! I didn’t get another chance to see him until the 😨G3 show with Steve and Kenny Wayne Shepherd in Memphis at Mud Island. It was worth the wait! Glad your still making music Joe!!!

100% vinyl is a traditional age old fidelity experience, almost a religious way of listening to music that pretty much we all grew up with, sadly since the creation of the the CD, vinyl faded away but he hardcore music buffs, like myself still appreciate the 'art' of taking the vinyl out of it's sleeve, holding it, feeling the weight in your hands, inspecting the grooves, laying it on the turntable, lowering the stylus, and hearing that initial crackle then the sound production leaves the speakers and enters your ears! That's an experience you cannot get with CDs. Yes vinyl takes up much more space in your home, but so do books. Nowadays books are eBooks and the same digital age is taking over our lives. The same experience applies to books, looking ta the cover, feeling the weight of the book, turning the pages, holding the book in your hands, etc.Long live vinyl!

I tell you, I totally get the segment on the way people listen to music. I'll never forget my Dad's story. In this little town of Old Trap NC. Where he grew up, R and B was like unheard of in the 40's, everyone listened to hillbilly, country type music, and folk music. However, my dad loved Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and all things Blues and the earliest versions of Rock. At around midnight one night, he went to the local Church, which is still standing today, went to the bell tower, consider this thing was made by stone masons and its a very solid building. He snuck in and went to the very top, about 50 feet up. Set up his 10 watt tube amp and his 45 record player and a couple full range speakers. No one back in that time knew anything about Hi fidelity. That was my dads interest , music and the quality of music. He turned it way up and plays Chuck Berry, My Ding-a-ling, for the entire town to hear at midnight. He said it was extremely loud and clear and what 200 some people lived in the area; he thinks they all heard it. My Dad was one of a kind. lol

I knew Joe's music with "Not of this earth" and of course just agter with "Surfing with the alien" I was 15 years old and like I'm french I could ses him for the first time on stage at the " Montreux Festival 1988 " ...it's the Live on DVD with the collector Surfing's Edition...💥🤩😍🎸🎵😋 And not 2 years after I was again in front of him in Nice for " Flying in a blue dream Tour "...I met him so several times free and never missed a Tour.... Now with "The Meet'n Greet" it' so cool to spend a moment with him and since 1988 he's still the same...as so kind, nice, cool, funny and he talks with so much pleasure about all his career...his material...his way of playing etc...🐶👍 From all these years he has been the original sound track of my life... What's also interesting is that Steve Vai got a record deal before his teacher Satriani. It was Steve Vai himself that told Satch that Epic Records will probably be interested in him since they like the stuff Vai does.

One my biggest influence and never saw him play live. Then he comes to Ottawa blues festival as im walking into the festival huge wind storm knocks the stage down. Hence the show was canceled. Rrrrr. I will see him live some day.

In 2016 I met him PERSONALLY and we were allowed to stroll on the stage, and see up close all his guitars, amps, distortions etc., which he use in that concert. Joe is way smarter and verbally observant than I expected. Good stuff. Humble dude, as well. Mitch needs to hear/ experience an A/B/x listening test with insanely expensive turntables and CD's or other digital formats, while listening to the same tune. The "sound stage", depth or 3d aspect, if you like, is where the difference lies to my ears. I didn't expect to hear that aspect when doing a listening test.....important- when you are NOT told, which format you are hearing at the moment.

When I was a boy, I remember Greg Kihn. He peaked with Jeopardy. As for the video to that, the church is St. Peter and Paul's Church. The Birds, other movies, music videos filmed it! Blocks away on Columbus Avenue, Survivor filmed Eye of the Tiger, 40 years ago! 🎂 I walked this area, the district called North Beach, many times! 😃 I had a chance to take lessons from Joe. I went to Berkeley many times. The problem was that my parents insisted that I stick with piano lessons up to a certain point. 🎹 Thus, I never went. 😥 But I did take guitar lessons in later years! 😎

My advice... learn all the music theory you can, then forget it and play. bam. Then when you hit the "desert", where you think you're out of ideas and everything seems boring, go listen to an instrument you HATE, and mimic it on YOUR instrument. For example, I listened to bagpipes - and bam. Got a whole new set of ideas i never thought of before.
