Joe I have heard many stories of recent Peterson and Sav purchases burnout. I have only burned out a cob in my 13 years of piping. I was proud! Hahah
@joeandtell11 ай бұрын
Wow. Those are pretty good odds. And I guess if you’re going to have a pipe burn out on you, a cobb is the best option.

What I do when my pipe starts to feel a little bit warmer is just stop and let it rest and cool off. How I take care of my ash/tamping is when I get down to about half the bowl I take my pipe pick and carefully swirl it around in the ash and then dump the excess out. Then I will tamp down the unburned tobacco and relight. That seems to work best for me. I think that smoking pipes has that policy because so many people will use a cigar torch, Lighter, which is way too hot for briar. It sounds like you definitely had a defective pipe, however. I have bought virtually all of my pipes, and most of my tobacco from smoking pipes And find them great to deal with. But I do remember seeing a video of theirs one time and they were discussing the torch pipe and how it will burn a hole in your briar. They even mentioned the spot on in the pipe that shows them that a torch was most likely used. I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m sure that was very frustrating. Have a blessed weekend my friend. John.

Thanks John! I try to let my pipe cool from time to time, but I don't always have the patience. I have never used a torch on any of my pipes though. Like I mentioned in the video, smokingpipes worked with me to come to a mutual resolution. Great company and great customer service!

Bummer on that pipe, I don’t worry about pulling Tobacco from the walls, but I do have to frequently mess with the Tobacco in my pipe to keep it smoking good. Depends on the blend of tobacco really how much I have to mess with it. Happy smokes and Thanksgiving

Thanks for the feedback! And same to you.

I smoke too fast so I usually smoke 2 or 3 pipes at once. When 1 gets too hot, I switch to 2, when that gets hot I start 3, then back to 1. It also depends on the pipes I’m using. Some have thinner walls & get hot quicker & stay hot longer. Some with thick walls can go longer before it’s uncomfortable. A lot of times I use different types of pipes, meer/cob/briar, to see if the taste of the tobacco is different. So far I can’t tell any difference. My palate is crappy anyway, lol. 👍😃

This is interesting. I assume you’re smoking the same tobacco in the different pipes?
@OldUncleMike3 ай бұрын
@@joeandtell yes, same tobacco, different pipes.

I don’t think you did anything wrong with that pipe. I think there was a flaw, either a knot or a crack or something when you bought it. there’s just no way you’re gonna burn out a pipe like that on four bowls. Maybe just maybe it could happen in three or four bowls if you’re getting it so hot you gotta use oven mitts, but I don’t think you were doing that.
@joeandtell11 ай бұрын
Lol. I can honestly say that I’ve never a smoked a pipe while wearing oven mitts.

Together with smoking pipes are preferable

i’ve never had luck using the little pick to try and loosen up tobacco that was packed too tightly. I find if I’m in that situation just dump the tobacco out and give the pipe a little clean load it back up again.
@joeandtell11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advise. I guess I’m too cheap to dump out that perfectly good tobacco. 😏

Have you tried fixing the pipe? Could use pipe mud to fill up the divets and give a protective layer, will be invisible after a few smokes.
@joeandtell11 ай бұрын
I didn’t even know pipe mud was a thing. Very interesting idea. I need to give it a try as the pipe has just sat in the box since the fourth smoke. Thanks for the recommendation!

My Talamona has a little black spot under it from the same thing. Got super hot. Think it’s just a bad peace of briar
@joeandtell10 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that. It’s unfortunate especially when you’re excited about a new pipe and that happens.
@jslaton420110 ай бұрын
In my experience, that is a defect (clearly) in briar (wood) itself- it happened to me one time and the the last 25 years and the company was gracious and took it back despite the “heat damage” which was no fault of my own. This should not have happened. Plus it does not seem like you smoke hard nor fast, it was the pipe plain and simple. Sorry this happened to you.

Thank you for your response and input. Smokingpipes did make it right, for which I am grateful.
