This song has a special meaning for me. I used to be a fall down drunk and lost everything. One night eight years ago I was home finishing up a pack of 16 oz. tall boys and as I was drinking the last beer I decided that this was the last drink I was going to ever have. I took my last swallow and then said a prayer to God to please help me get sober. All I cared about at that point in my life was to not die a fall down drunk. I have been sober for eight years.

Awesome job Joe. I started drinking when I was 11 yrs old and now I'm 62. I was able to stop with AA and by the grace of God. I drank 60 beers a day and a pint of vodka in the morning to get rid of the shakes so I could drive to the store and get my alcohol for the new day. That's all I lived for. Now I have been sober for 22 years and have 2 boys and a granddaughter. Life is beautiful now. I think your song will help many people. God bless you Joe and thanks for the music for so many years. Keep it coming. Hope to see you in Phoenix soon. I will be going to see the Eagles when they come to Phoenix. Hope you will be with them. One Day At A Time.

I. 8 yrs sober. I've been. At this for 3 3:39 3 years. I got to AA IN 1990 AT THE AGE OF 26. I wouldn't do the work. They say meeting makers make it. Not so in my case. First go around 8yrs. Second go around 12 yrs. 2015 Aug 25. 50 YRS OLD. JAILED 2 TIMES TWO DIFFERENT MONTHS . Dui. Crash. Gave up my family .my kids my life. King alcohol had me. Then a series of events happened. The policemen at the crash said . This could be the best day of my life. He said I could use this to turn my life around. A 180% . Then in jail, a guy told me I wasn't a victim. I did this to myself because I hated myself. I told him no I didn't. He said sure you do, If someone had done to your life what I did I'd hate them. At that moment I wanted out of jail . This guy said the only way to not hate myself was to go sit in a AA meeting. Go in , go all the way in. Sit down, sit all the way down, and stay. . I started going to men's workshops here in FL. And GEORGA. THEY PLAY THIS SONG AT THE CFMWS. CENTRAL FLORIDA MENS WORKSHOP. AND I LOVE IT. GOOD TO KNOW THAT IM NOT ALONE.

MY son started with beer, pot, and pills at 15. He graduated to bigger things, and ended up on heroin for the last 35 years. I have tried everything to help him. I always prayed and asked God to keep him safe until he got C&S. About 2 months ago I was praying and God said to me, "You never asked me to heal him?" I felt so stupid! I said, "God, I am asking You to heal my son now!" And He said, "I will." I had the most wonderful talk with my son today It has been years since I heard him sound so happy and hopeful! Please, pray for my son that this will be the time for his healing from addiction. He has such a problem thinking he can do it himself, and it always fails. God Bless all of you out there who have gone through this yourselves or with a loved one. I know the pain. As a mother watching your son withdraw from heroin, puking and swearing at you, is the closest to hell on earth there is. Losing him would be even worse. He has had so many friends who have died from ODs, car accidents, even murders. I am so blessed that my son lived, and hopefully he will get the help and support he needs, and with God's help, this will be his time of healing.

@@MadDog-65 Well I think the urges are something you just have to cope with, and you are doing such a great job already. As I said, after all these years, I still take baby steps so to speak and I am almost always alert, that is the price we pay. But if that keeps us safe, than so be it. Wow, I had heard this song before but never listened to the lyrics. My husband and I met in recovery eleven years ago. He recently passed away less than a month ago. As I was crying one evening alone in our home, missing him so terribly and feeling hopeless and alone, this song came on the radio. I felt as if he played it for me, to comfort me. He died sober and clean and helped so many live sober and clean. This song makes me smile because without recovery, I would have never met this glorious man and shared 11 wonderful years with him. His name was also Joe. Thank you Joe Walsh for carrying the message. God Bless.

I've always been a huge fan of The Eagles my whole life. My Dad listened to them a lot, & his favorite Eagle is Joe Walsh. My Dad (George) became a Grandpa on his 50th birthday in 2003; & on June 17th this year, he will be 69 & his grandson, Tysen, will be 19. Like his Grandpa, Tysen's favorite Eagle has always been Joe Walsh, & they both got a kick out of Joe's sense of humor too. They both had an exceptional memory as young kids, & as a result, I'd do the same with Tysen, that Dad did with me. Teach him as much about his favs as possible. He knew all of the Eagles names, dobs & in order of age too. And from the time that I 1st put on multiple dvd concerts of The Eagles, especially, The Farewell 1 tour Live in Melbourne Dvd, Tysen, was crazy about the Eagles music & especially Joe. He'd take his toy guitar & say to me, Look Auntie, I'm Joe Walsh of The Eagles. And of all of Joe's songs, this was Tysen's song. He knew all of their songs word for word, & could mock Joe singing this song way before he ever went to school. Every time I hear this classic of Joe's, my mind goes back in time like a premonition & I can still see Joe on tv & Tysen standing in front of it yelling out, Oh Yeah. One Day At A Time, etc... Thanks Joe & the rest of the gang for all of their great songs. This song & their Farewell One Tour dvd will always be 1 for Tysen's childhood history book of favorites. All the best of life & health to you, Joe. Life long fans of yours always from Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada. :)

You cant write as simple as this if its not from the Heart. Just Epic lyrics and Music and the Voice is perfect. I reckon this song has turned quite a few peoples lives around. Are you one of those people I would love to hear your story.

I love all of Joe Walsh's from The James Gang to the Eagles. I lost alot from drinking and this song tells it all. July 1st was my anniversery. 32 and a half years sober. Your the best Joe and this song proves it!!!!!

You were graced a third time to come back to the rooms. It will stick. Did for me the 3:39 third time. Keep coming back. It works if you work it. What else ya gotta do?😊

First heard this song in my third attempt at rehab. Third time was the charm. 8/9/16 is my “birthday” and I’m so much happier today! My addiction was the same as Joe’s...alcohol. Cunning, baffling, powerful! But Through God all things are possible. If anyone reading this needs help, I beg you to please get it. It’s not easy, but life is better on this side of addiction. God Bless You Joe!!! Thank you for writing such an inspiring song that many of us totally relate to!! Keep living “one day at a time”!

I remember when he used to talk in the Howard Stern show. He was so drunk and clearly in a dark place. It's inspiring to see someone recover from that state to what he is now: better than ever. All without taking himself seriously. The man is a miracle and deserves all the best.

Eight years sober. Joe being sober really assisted me in the initial stages of recovery. I looked up to him, as well as being a fellow guitarist. I call him "Uncle Joe."

Every Eagles concert or joe Walsh solo concert , this should have a place in your set list..even if it reaches a handful of those in the audience it's a handful more who will turn their life around and live...not only for themselves but everyone who had loved them...thanks joe

This occurs when a song is written with a lot of emotion, love, but above all a lot of knowledge. Not to mention a top - notch performance. All honors and tributes to the great Joe Walsh.

I'm 69 years old and have enjoyed your music from the beginning. I finally saw you live last summer in Chicago. And two nights ago I listened to you speak on a Zoom AA Meeting. Your share topped it all. I'm sober 13 years and have listened to a lot of stories in the program. Your presentation, for me, ranks right at the top. I could relate to so much. But you have a gift of being able to put into words clearly with energy and feeling how and why this program works., 'One Day At A Time".

Compliments to Joe. He told a story in 3 1/2 minutes that others have tried to tell in 300 pages. For me after 23 years, it is still One day and then another. My congrats to all my brothers and sisters who live for that daily reprieve.

I can relate to this song in some way too, Joe. My Dad struggled with alcohol (his favorite was beer) from the time he was a teen until 3 years ago when his health took a turn for the worst & he finally quit. Both my brother & I were glad too. We also have an older brother that struggled with drugs of all kinds for years & quit all of that finally about 15 or so years ago. I've had many other relatives who struggled with their own addiction battles, & I'm lucky that I never fell into the partying way of life. If anything, I was on anti-convulsants for Epilepsy from 3 months (Nov. 1975) to Oct. 1, 2001 & for me, that was enough. I never felt the want or need to drink when medically, I've already felt a bit of what my Dad was with his booze, & watching him slowly deteriorate from it, hurt way too much to follow that path. Thanks again for songs like this one. It should be used as the song used to help others realize that you can have plenty of fun without drinking, etc... I've lived my life that way. As I've posted somewhere on youtube before that my favorite song of yours is the 1 of all fast songs & Pretty Maids All In A Row. When I first heard you sing that ballad, it stopped me dead in my tacks. I thought, God, that's a 360 of all of your other ones. You're just as amazing at singing ballads, Joe, as you are at the get up & dance ones. Even my Dad & others agreed. You should do some others like that. Take care. :)

I picked up drums when I was 10. The year was 1963. I started playing in clubs before I could drive. I lived and played through one of the most incredible periods in history. I was blessed. I am still grateful.
