I asked this not as a hater but as someone who genuinely wants to hear people's opinions. And just to prevent some unhelpful responses, I'm familiar with music theory, extremely familiar with music history, have a extremely large music collection with music from around the world, and dating back to music that was composed millennia ago. I am also a musician, and guitar is my primary instrument. I love good blues from Son House to SRV. With that said, what am I missing about Joe? he has solid vocals, songs, and guitar playing, but there is nothing I hear that is remotely close to extraordinary. Referring specifically to hi playing, his timing, phrasing, pyrotechnics, attack and nuance, all solid, but unremarkable. Please fill me in on what I am missing.

nope - joe's got several of his own lucilles. this one is a memphis-style finish, whereas the iconic lucille was black nitro (joe's got at least one of those too). pretty sure gibson only remade 80 lucilles with the badge (not branded as epiphones) for bb's 80th birthday. joe was able to scoop at least one of them then, which i'd guess wasn't this memphis finish, given its differences (including slightly different hardware than a trad'l lucille). anyway that's all a complicated, unsure way of saying "don't think so, but damn that things is beautiful!". also: he does tell a bit of the story here, but not all of it: jbonamassa.com/b-b-king-lucille-love-story/

Joe said he travels with about 50 guitars and generally plays over 38 of them in concerts, not every concert, but out of those he travels with 38 of them are used throughout the tour.

Absolutely, I might be wrong but i think his Saxman might be Jeff Kashiwa one of the heavy's for a long time with a Jazz Fusion group called the Rippington's wtih front man and jazz guitarist Russ Freemen. It's been awhile since I have revisited any of their video's here but I'll buy a round of beer's if i am mistaken. Joe is in a really good place in his career right now in my opinion and able to attract other top notch artists to collaborate with which I think always pulls out the best in everyone. You can really feel the energy of a live show when all the members are dialed into that groove with the eye contact and grinning faces as they are trading off riffs and mini solos with each other. When they are having fun and not exclusively trading musical notes for paper ones the magic really happens and everyone is rewarded generously. I think the Thrill has not gone away and it's here to stay awhile. God Bless Music in all it's forms, probably one of humanities most redeeming qualities. Enjoy your musical journey my friend. A slow cool nod to JB with a smile of approval and gratitude.

Although we lost the legendary ‘King’ of the blues, B. B. King, his soul lives on and was transformed into Joe’s! They almost sound alike in this song, and Joe plays with the same amount of emotion and feeling to make this the great performance it is! The only difference I can see is the vast amount of emotion and feeling Joe shows while playing, while King’s is there, but not as visible. Anyway, I’m sure King is smiling down from above as he listens to and watches Joe!

laurenldc chase , yes that's what he does. Just like he took Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff back to the next level. Without going totally Eric Johnson or Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. He navigated the narrow road with 18 hours of practice a day. He stays true and authentic to the music genre of blues but yet he excels beyond what they've done. He's my fave.

I am in awe of his playing, clearity of the guitar sounds and wonder why it is now I find him. Typed in Blues......search and he popped up with a bunch.....in the past several days I have just started listening to maybe 12 songs. i am hooked. I am a SRV fan. I say SRV came back in the hands pf this cat. His playing, singing & his band......EXCELLENT!
@terryhogan62056 жыл бұрын
I LOVED SRV and was annihilated when he died. I was listening to PANDORA radio and have a SRV Channel; "Sloe Gin" came on and I immediately grabbed my phone and looked to see who this man was! He and Stevie Ray are really quite different as Stevie's guitar was an extension of him. He never looked at his guitar when he was playing. The music just poured out of him, magically, like they were connected. Stevie Ray couldn't even read music. Joe B is quite the perfectionist...so polished, and plays PRECISE. Joe starts out slow, then just shreds the guitar...in a seductive kinda way. Joe's acoustic stuff is phenomenal. I have every cd he has out, and my husband BLESSED me with a ticket to see Joe when he comes to Sugar Land, TX in May 2018. I'm like...beside myself right now. *grinning*

Respect for both white and black "blues singers." But black blues singers are naturally rooted with the blues. They have that "blues voice." You can feel it.

When I first heard of Joe, I thought "what an over-rated guy". I was quite wrong. He has just gotten better and better, especially in his singing. His guitar playing seems to be on a level no one else can attain, at the moment. Grat job, Joe.
