Yo it's really 4k'd up that all these people are generally out here trying to condemn Dave for a damn comedy series...I have nothing really against the rainbow letter squad except the fact that they're literally trying to shove their existence down your throat (no homo)... sexual preference has nothing to do with your job or much less anything else,it's your choice and like Dave repeated "Gender is a FACT" to act like something else is a 4kin choice....they've been around for years yes but now it's like you get condemned for even saying anything but you won't even get a tap on the hand to say crazy ish about a church, religion, even the dang president of the US

Dave is very clear, throughout the special, that he's only ever talking to and about White people. This special is about Dave's dislike of "White minorities" (Women, LGBTQ+, etc) often picking their Whiteness over their minority status & of White minorities weaponizing their minority status as it suits them. They will play victim & use their minority status to attack a powerful poc while inversely using their Whiteness to attack disempowered poc (ex Calling Cops, Social Exclusion, Voting against our common interests, etc). The final 10mins clarify the goal of this special. Dave quotes Daphne "punching down on someone requires you to think less of them." Then using that as a call back he pleas w/ White minorities to stop "punching down" on poc. Perfect final note that encapsulated this special.

A root cause of the backlash he gets seems to come from the fact that Chappelle has elevated his craft from a comic telling funny stories to a performance artist with a highly curated collection of work with specific objectives toward directing audience responses (beyond simply laughing). To truly appreciate his work requires the audience to be okay with questioning themselves, their beliefs, the reasons they are already angry before he even says a word. He addresses our "brittleness" (as he calls it) head on, knowing there will be backlash precisely because of that brittleness. He references it multiple times, saying "It's gonna get worse" and "I'm going all the way," signaling to us that he's taking us somewhere uncomfortable. And then he asks us to sit in our discomfort, question it, and tests whether we can extend the empathy we all want for ourselves to the very person who made us uncomfortable. That's the main takeaway from this piece, in my opinion. Empathy for human experience has to go both ways, not just toward the marginalized. He purposefully marginalizes his entire audience and then asks them to recognize the validity of his own human experience, thereby testing the limits of our empathy. Based on the reviews I've read, it seems many of us have yet again failed that test. This backlash proves his point, again, that there is no enlightenment in being brittle when that brittleness limits empathy for others - including someone you think is "punching down" on you.

1. If you didn't watch the special from beginning to end, you shouldn't have anything to say. 2. He explained it all, really simple to understand. He is not a hateful person, there are lessons to be learned from what he said. 3. If you cannot see a comedy show and not be able to set aside your sensitivity then don't watch at all. Comedy is edgy, it's offensive. New generation is too damn sensitive.

I was thinking the same thing. Of course he did it on purpose! When you sit down and craft a comedy routine everything you say is on purpose. Did he think Dave just goes up there to play call and response to the audience.

I don't think Dave will do interviews about it, I think he was serious when he said he was done talking about it after the special. I do agree that he's setting the PC brigade up with this set though. He went after everyone in this special, no punches pulled, but there's a very specific group that's reacting to a very specific set of material and I think that's exactly what Dave wants. He wants them to demonstrate to the world that they only care about ethics and morale's when It's about them. "Everything is funny, until it happens to you."

Y’all is funny. Dave has been saying jokes that everyone wants to say but don’t have the courage to do it. Dave is just stating the obvious with a twist and I think he realizes that the planet is so foolish that if he doesn’t reiterate it over and over at some point no one takes it seriously unless he does. I am so glad he keeps reinforcing how much he doesn’t agree with trans activism and supports women. I’m very proud of this man standing up for females because a lot of men don’t. Men are ashamed to be open and honest about how they feel and to vocally express their support for women.

You are so right. As a woman I almost burst into tears at one point bc it was such a relief to hear a powerful man finally say this stuff, for example where he mentioned the performance of "femininity" by certain individuals being akin to blk face. I've been saying it's modern minstrelsy for a while now, but when women say that nobody cares. We're expected to welcome them into restrooms where we change our babies. We're expected to say they're the "same" as us despite having literally NONE of the same physical hardships associated with our identity

Dave is quicksand. This was methodically calculated. This was more commentary than stand up. He is an old school technical comedian. He is pointing out hypocrisy and selective outrage. If you like a person you will excuse there bad behavior, until it effects you. Hit dogs holla. This the Closing of this body of work...not his finale.
