I've watched many of Mark's interviews over the years. Joe asked more questions about his childhood and early career than I've heard before. And true to form, Mark didn't blow them off. He answered honestly and completely. Hollywood couldn't seem to see him in any other role than "Luke." I'm glad he did Broadway, and has made a careet our his first love, voice over. His Joker is fabulous! Creepy and funny. And the many laughs he's put together...

I'm gonna be honest here, while I can understand the impact Luke has had on people and Mark is beloved for the role and what not. But I honestly have come to like Mark more for his voice work for characters such as the Joker then really his role as Luke Skywalker. Mainly cause while he played the role well, and ultimately the role was written and developed well I've always just viewed Luke as the staple token protagonist character. Similar to how Merlin from the Arthur legend is ultimately the character archetype for the wise old mentor character that so many other stories have drawn upon when writing the wise mentor character whether it be Obi-Wan, Gandalf or Dumbledore.

And I am so fucking glad that I saw the OT as a child. I remember it so clearly. It had to be 1995 or something, I was about 7 years old and my parents left me home alone and there was a Star Wars marathon on tv. I think I watched all 3 back to back, and I believe it was before all the bs editions. I didn’t known what it was but it had space ships and laser swords, that is all I needed to know. And I was all alone, no parents to guide me through it or spoil the good parts. I saw the “I am your father” without knowing or having heard about that scene. I am so glad I got to experience that.

@@sheep3370 His actions in the Last Jedi don't make any fcking sense. His character goes from "Oh yeah, my father, the second most evil person in the universe must still have some good in him" to "Oh, my nephew showed just a little bit of evil, let's kill him". He's a character who according to the original movies values family above everything and would never give up on it, would never betray it. That is luke skywalker - the paragon of optimism and hope. The paragon of optimist and hope decides there's no hope for his own nephew who's just a child? Fcking hell Rian Johnson completely fucked up the story. It's as if the story was written by a child who had no prior knowledge of the Star Wars universe. The characters all act out of character, betray their traits with no possible logical explanation; there are a ton of plot holes in all of the movie; the characters, both Empire and Resistance generals, all act as if they had absolutely 0 military knowledge, heck, they don't even have common sense. This movie was a complete fuck up and people who can't see this are: a) just in denial OR b) they have 0 knowledge of how people act in real life OR c) have no idea what's good writing, with good logical character development and logical character decisions

I agree with killing off Snoke because he was a made-up character by JJ, who was just a poor mans Emperor. A very good twist than just having this trilogy completely copy the plot and story arch of the original trilogy. The killing of Luke Skywalker was completely unnecessary. You hear so many people in comments say 'oh he could come back as a force ghost'. Forget that, he should just return in general. It's pretty obvious that the original ending did not have Luke dying but because of his open criticism before the release of the film they politically had him killed off. The original director of the 9th film wanted to have Luke be a huge part of the last film.
@Flippokid
@Flippokid 6 жыл бұрын
No, they wanted to kill him off in 8 from the start. There are a couple articles that confirm that. Killing of Snoke makes sense from that point of view. But he could have accepted the challenge to actually deliver a great character, or at least make it a better one than he did. I actually like the mindmelting he does with Rey and Kylo, but he's just such an asshole to his underlings that it completely ruins him.

Gennaro Cavainolo You decide to see movies based on press junkets, adverts and talk shows? Meh. It's like the age old adage, "never meet your idols". He's not a performing monkey. People these days expect the moon on a stick... judge the artist by their art.

I think you got to understand that Star Wars was never really in Ford's field of interest. Mark grew up as a kid who was into fantasy and comic books. Harrison was only in the audition room for Star Wars to help read during other actors' auditions. He was really just doing a solid for his friend George. So it was always just something Harrison fell into that ended up blowing up more than he ever expected. I can understand him not having a huge attachment to it.

It doesn't have to be your field of interest to be GRACIOUS about something that gave you a career. I don't expect him to jump through hoops but even in interviews where Ford is supposedly promoting the project he is ornery about it. HE was paid well to do the role AND to do the press. Its not like I'm pissed at him or anything but yeah..i probably won't go see anything else he stars in other than the new Indiana Jones.
