I'm old enough go have seen ROTJ in the theater in 1983. I was in the line at the theater with my friends to see it for the first time. The people who were in the showing before mine came out when the movie ended and walked right by my friends and me. We asked them what happens in the movie, and one of them said, "Chewbacca dies". We were shocked to hear that, and spent the whole movie waiting for Chewie to die. We were both relieved and disappointed when he didn't.

The corporate PR machine is so much more in control now. A freewheeling, relaxed conversation between Carrie and Letterman about a movie as massive as Star Wars would be am impossibility these days, particularly with Disney at the helm. Everything is stage-managed to within an inch of its life today.

She has always doubted her body, doubted her beauty, as evidenced in all her self-deprecating statements across the years. My God in heaven......if she had any idea.....Carrie....you have been eternally branded onto the heart and soul, the adoration and desire of generations of men around the *entire* world. And it's not ONLY for beauty, but for the courage and will your character embodied. Not since Marilyn Monroe have so many hearts burned with passion and praise toward a woman as toward you. Even to *this day* you are praised by countless millions of men whom would rather spend a day alongside you than any other starlet in hollywood. I guarantee this beyond all doubt.

Hard to imagine just how long ago this was in a city far far away. RIP Carrie you were one of the original strong Female leads that was also able to do that while keeping your femininity, one of the greats! Mark Hamill is great and makes me laugh when he refers to Star Wars as something wasn't taken seriously, it was only the biggest movie in the World and Ever at the time. Good freaking God----back in the day, Carrie Fisher was sexxxy as hell. Yeah, she may have that "girl next door" look----but *that* is exactly the reason as to why I find her *so* hot. No one pulled off that look like Carrie Fisher. To me, the girl next door look is the equivalent to how most men drool over the supermodel type (something I don't find attractive *at all* ). Christie Brinkley is the only exception. But, she kind of has the girl next door look going on, doesn't she? So, we're right back to where we started.

I love her books her wit is badass. Ok down to 3%.. what sad is she never went into singing as a side profession she is a natural like her dad.. a rare instance of her singing a song is on a episode of Laverne and Shirley. Shows what a visionary George Lucas was. I feel so bad that he didn't want to continue with Star Wars, I feel so bad for everyone attacking him for years because of the prequels, which weren't that bad. Now what we're getting from Disney is garbage.

I think it would be awesome if he got a role as the joker in a live action batman movie. i bet he'd be super good since he was the joker voice for all those years in the cartoons and is a good actor in general. I feel like he would have done just as good as jack nicholson and definitely better than jered leto.

ZOMG. I remember seeing this footage on TV before the movie came out. Back then, the effects-driven Hollywood blockbuster was still a rarity. Seeing these effects was mind-blowing, My friends and I were so friggin' excited for Return of the Jedi. And young Carrie Fisher... what a babe.

I dated a Ukrainian girl in my hometown a few years ago. She was in the US on a workers Visa for the summer. She was a sweetheart. When people who never saw her ask what she looked like , I tell them think of Carrie Fisher from around 1980 to 1990's. Yekaterina was a dead ringer for Carrie at that time. Funny thing is at the time, I never thought of them so closely resembling each other. Never occurred to me. Miss her very much.

Very true, George. I have an Elric magazine from 1982 with a feature on "Revenge of the Jedi," with some Ralph McQuarrie conceptual artwork. There are also some red herrings thrown in plot-wise, including talk of a character named Adoy, a sinister Yoda.. or something like that. And of course, there is the red and black movie poster for "Revenge" out there somewhere..

Watching this reminds me of the massive crush I had on her in the 1980s - but then I had many... Gosh she was beautiful. And talented - Mark Hamill also. The poor man never was able to escape that typecasting - neither of them really. I remember Mark doing voices in some Wing Commander computer game - with 8 CDs or something. He was great, but I'm sure he would have liked to do other great movies and be seen as a versatile actor.
