The Donor Defender is Gone! LS3 Swap Lives On

Today we strip the last of the donor Land Rover Defender down. We also set the first part of the body on the new chassis, exciting moment. We have the exhaust all mocked up and needed to see where the tail pipe should land. Great. I came close to doing this. How did you fit the new bulkhead in the end?

With all these mods you guys make particularly engine change overs do you need an engineer to certify/ sign off all the work carried out before registered for the road. What’s the process over there? Am I missing something….With the tap can’t you just paint one blue for cold. Spray can??? Or is it the fitting needs changing?

Nothing required in our state. It varies from state to state over here but it is mainly just related to emissions testing. If we were going from scratch or from a salvage vehicle we would have a very basic safety inspection before being able to register it. Kind of scary if you think about it, we are somewhat thorough and competent I like to think but some people could really hack together some stuff and have it on the road. On the tap, it’s more the left vs. right. Typically have the cold on the right and hot on the left so the reversal messes with my brain.

Wow that would allow some shockers onto the roads. We have a very detailed engineering process here in Australia to go through. Nearly all ‘mod plate’ cars I have seen have been to a very high standard. Particularly attention on safety.
