Crazy thing about this song? Billie really had a dream that she took her own life and nobody cared. The song also took over a year to finish/write. They put it away for a while. It was written during a tough time for her. While she was battling depression. From an article on Billboard: In late 2019, Billie Eilish unveiled “everything i wanted,” her tribute to her brother Finneas. The tune features sweet lyrics in the chorus, “As long as I’m here / No one can hurt you,” but in a New York Times profile, Billie admits that the song wasn’t always so reassuring. Eilish got inspiration for the song a year prior, when she had a dream about taking her own life. When she took the idea to her brother, he became uncomfortable with the worrying topic. “We had this big argument,” she told the publication, “Because I admitted something that I was, uh. It wasn’t a physical thing I was admitting. I don’t know how to put it without actually saying it, and I don’t want to actually say it. But it was me admitting to something that was very serious about my depression. A very serious step that I was admitting that I was planning on taking. And Finneas said, I don’t want to write a song about you killing yourself and how that’s everything you wanted!” Finneas, who was also present during the interview, gave his perspective on the troubling situation. “It was a period where I was really worried about my sister, and I felt like an enabler in helping her write a song as bleak as that song was,” he said. “Like the musical equivalent of giving an alcoholic another beer: ‘I’m not going to support this.’ A lot of songs are written in retrospect, but this one felt like it was being written in real time, and I was like: ‘This is something we’ve got to write on the other side of this hill. We have to go through this in real life. You can’t always solve your problems in a song.’ The article also touched on Eilish’s longtime depression, which sparked when she ruptured the growth plate in her hip and was forced to quit dancing, an activity she wholeheartedly enjoyed. When she achieved fame, she felt a bit ill-equipped to deal with the negative sides of it. “I had to quit the choir, and I lost all my friends, then I didn’t want to do drugs, and I lost all my other friends because they did,” she explained. “Then I had kind of no one.” When the sibling duo revisited “everything i wanted” a year later, Eilish approached it with a different perspective. “My argument, which I think was the thing that made my mom and Finneas finally go, ‘Oh, OK,’ is I said: ‘This song is the way I can feel these things without doing something to myself.'” “Finneas and I both had the idea to make the song about each other, instead of just me and how I was feeling,” she continued, which is made evident in the song, where lyrics like “Thought I could fly / So I stepped off the Golden” are met with countered camaraderie such as, “But when I wake up, I see / You with me.” “We had a complete block,” she said. “and the way we got through it was to make it about us as siblings and what we mean to each other.”

@@joeesparks7 you’re welcome. At the time this song dropped, I didn’t know about this. I remember Billie posting the snippet of it on her instagram. Can’t believe it’s been this long since the song dropped! I only learned about the story behind the song a couple years ago. Crazy.

A lot of things to look for in this video. The lights on the towers/buildings in the background in the beginning light up on time with the piano. The street lights pass on time with the beat as well. Just for a few instances

Probably one of my fav Billie songs cause it's about her and her brother. A Grammy winner that wasn't on any album. Others include 'When I Was Older', What Was I Made For, No Time To Die, Lovely (later added to her updated EP) and others. I enjoy ur Billie reactions!

This song is very straightforward. Billie has had MANY suicidal ideations. She had a dream she jumped off the bridge and no one cried. But when she woke up, her brother was there to say, "As long as I am here, no one will hurt you."

This song is about their relationship as siblings and bestfriends, in the beginning of the video, it's written, "finneas is my best friend and no matter what we'll always be there for each other" and it's also true story "and you say as long as I'm here no ne can hurt you Don't wanna lie here But you can learn to, If I could change The way that you see yourself, You wouldn't wonder why you hear They don't deserve you" those are words fin has said to her when she told him about the dream. I really admire their relationship ❤

This song is so relatable my brother and I sing this song on the top of our lungs always his my favorite person and saved me as well only difference is I’m older by 15yrs his 10 I’m turning 26 in February he saved me the day he was born I was gonna take myself out and the phone rang my mom was going into labour I dropped what I was doing and went to the hospital when I saw his face I vowed to change be better and stay alive for him if not for myself then he thought me what love was I learned to love myself because of him I’m blessed everyday for him so this song has a special place in my heart for us this one and you are my sunshine by Paul rice

Thought you might notice this but whenever there's a shot from inside the car to the outside, the passing object {streetlight, lamp posts, cacti, garbage cans} is on the beat of the music. It's very clever and almost always goes un-noticed. If you re-watch it'll be a face-palm moment for someone who appreciates the details. Always look forward to your reactions, BTW.

Don’t know if you noticed but as the car moved the lights went by on beat. The ones on the side, on the dashboard- Same with the lights on top of the towers.

Dude… Fin-EEE-us. 😊 Also, the song is entirely about Billie and Finneas and their relationship and how they’ll always be there for each other. When Billie was going through a lot, Finneas was and will always be her person. He said “As long as I’m here, no one can hurt you.” and “If I could change the way you see yourself, you wouldn’t wonder why you’re here. They don’t deserve you.”
