At least in Europe you can still find them. However they are either only Physical releases in the sense that you get to hold a box because they are just a download code or you do get a disc with a Steam Installer and if you are very lucky the game files so you don´t have to download the game. That being said there are sometimes still physical collector´s editions like for Baldur´s Gate 3 as well, but even with those it´s a gamble wether or not you get a disc with the actual game on it in them.

Opening Google and searching for Capcom sales: "Capcom sold 45.89 million units of video games during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024" over half of this from PC, barely 10% of their sales numbers are shipped physically even less sold.

I wouldn't use number of units sold as a good metric plenty of these PC sales will be older games on deep sales, if they had published their total revenue from console and total revenue from PC; that would be a better metric for which platform is more succesfull for them...

The volume of sales on PC alone would make it so that if EVERY sale on here was at sales and every console sale was at full price without the addition of MTX PC would still be #1 for revenue if we separated for platform. That being said they did publish revenue figures, but not broken up by platform. 3.8 billion yen from physical sales (accounting for 6% of all sales) and 33.8 billion from digital, which tells me that no, PC sales are not older games nor deep sales but mostly full price new(er) games. Also let's not act as if consoles don't have pretty deep sales. Also consider this, Dragon's Dogma 2 is estimated to have between 2-3 million PC owners, that's a nice FY24 release most of its owners coming in from before it ever went on sale, which happened a grand total of 2 times.

I do realize consoles have their own storefronts, that never was the question, sales numbers on PC digital outnumber all the physical and digital sales of playstation+Xbox+switch all together and since we can infer from other data points on how well a game on Steam might perform I have to conclude that your assertion of buying games at deep sales is just flat out wrong.

It’s more expensive. A thumb drive with a AAA 170gb game id assume would be like 15-20 bucks of manufacturing whereas a disc is like 2.50. Scale that up to 40,000 physical copies and that’s 600,000 bucks for thumb drives vs 100,000 for discs. Literally saving more or less half a million dollars for less than 10 percent of your sales My numbers might be off but even if it’s 5 bucks that’s twice the price of a disc

The most shocking part of any of these stats is that Capcom is selling games physically on PC. I didn't know that was even an option. Also if Capcom sold on 44k copies on PC don't you think they would just drop support? For that matter if they only sold 4.5 million copies globally wouldn't they go bankrupt or at least would need to massively downsize? They have actually increased wages by 5% or more year over year for existing employees and hiring more people year over year which is the opposite of downsizing.

Im not a console guy, but not every feature on console is catching up to pc, direct storage access, arrived way later on windows, it arrived directly on xbox series and whatever equivalent name on ps5. Its the thing that allows to load super fast for those that dont know. Only 3 games supports in on windows, api been released for 2years, only really works with a really top quality nvme and windows 11 23h2 minimum so yeah, would love that in more games and also on linux. But thats the best feature in this generation or console and the pc is still catching up to that. At some point gotta accept some stuff are pioneered by consoles

I used to be an xbox guy (still have a series X and S that I use regularly because gamepass) but last year I switched back to PC because I love the amount of control you get, incredible number of available games, crazy game sales, huge emulation scene and MODS! But let's toss all that aside for a minute, let's talk about these so called Sony exclusive. On PC I bought (at very low price) Spiderman, last of us, god of war, Days gone and Horizon zero dawn. I tried them all. emphasis on "tried" here. First of all: they are all the SAME game wearing different outfits! -Spiderman is fun for about an hour untill you realize that you saw everything the game has to offer -Days gone, last of us are the exact same game -horizon is the same game as the ones above but with a different color palette. -God of war is story is just insufferable and the gameplay is the same as the others down to the button mapping, menus, crafting wheels etc these games are inherently similar and absolutely boring. So much so that I couldn't play any of them for more than a few hours each before uninstalling them forever haha

The last time a console was leagues ahead of PC was the PS1 era, where PC had fake 3D graphics in games, which was just 2D models, with the character being drawn in different directions to give the illusion of 3D, and the PlayStation had some of the actual first 3D graphics. (And there were GPUs in PCs at that time [3DFX VooDoo, and ATI], where people needed both a 2D and a 3D card in their computer)
