I liked Uncharted and GoW (No masterpieces, but they were good), Spiderman was fine and I couldn't finish Horizon (I dropped it after 4 hours). I've never used Games for Windows as I would of been near going into the age of 10 at the time. I do remember the Gears of War 1 Windows announcement with the extra chapter that was cut out, fighting the Brumak. I think it was on the Xbox 360 as a video or on KZbin? I was more on the consoles at that time, like the GameCube, Xbox Original, and the Xbox 360, until 2011. Can't say I knew it was a paid service, like Final Fantasy XI or World of Warcraft. Do like that online multiplayer is playable for free, being a fair trade off with desktops and laptops being more in price than consoles. I think Microsoft is doing better with the Xbox app for games and the ecosystem, even with PC Game Pass giving more access to games, or with Game Pass Ultimate being the best of both worlds of Xbox consoles and Windows 10. It's miles better than Games for Windows, I'd imagine. Still cool it had cross play back then, like with Lost Planet 1 after looking up the Colonies Edition, from last year.

That said, I don't see it as the only thing trading here, just the most numerically measurable one. If you had asked me this in the 360 era I would have had to admit you were still getting the cheaper deal, if not by a lot when all was said and done (I build for around 1K so $400 + $400 in 5 years of fees is striking distance). But consoles have ever inched closer to parity here, as my budget remains roughly the same. Hell the PS5 Pro REALLY brought that home where you could basically build the PC Im using now (I built it for about $900 2 years ago... you can for about $800 now) for the price of the system, the drive (I have one), and the stand.... and my PC will depending on the game meet it blow for blow or destroy it. (Basically same GPU level, but better CPU and more RAM backing the whole thing)... and I still don't have those online fees. At this point it's becoming less of a counter-balance and more of a straight win to add to my reasons to be on this platform over the consoles.

Sony couldn't have given a crap what the PC community said, which is why they didn't back down for about a year, and shadow dropped PSN login requirements in games 10 months after release. This was under Herman Hulst's supervision, though, and Hiroki gave Herman the time so he could show Sony that Hulst was incompetent. Now they are removing his fingerprints from projects he's touched. My manager once said that it's more effective to let someone mess up repeatedly because getting rid of them will be easy.

I'm going to be showing my age but i remember during the sixth generation of gaming a lot of games got multi platform releases. Even as a kid i was able to enjoy Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Tony Hawks Underground 2 because its on every system. I want to play Spider-man 2. I got a PC but not a ps5. I'm on a very restricted income, a PS5 is to damn expensive just to play one game. Now that the games finally on PC i can enjoy it. How is that a bad thing? I often find myself sailing the high seas for games that require me to log into a second launcher before playing. I own the games mind you, but can’t stand using them. Especially with Ubisoft, Origin, and Rockstar. I refuse to have origin on my PC. Rockstar can just lock me out of single player games if they feel like it. Ubisoft locked me out of AC Odyssey right after I purchased the DLC and it was not fixed for months. It’s completely justified to set sail if you are doing it ethically for the sake of convenience. Epic gets a pass since I have received a massive amount of free games and they had insane deals the first two years they were out. Those indies were fantastic to experience once I got my hands on a steam deck.

Until recently, I forgot about GOG. I just bought Silent Hill 4 and Dino Crisis on there, even though I can emulate them. I like to give my money to things I like. I don't think Sony or The Epic Games Store will ever get any of my money again. So mad that Alan Wake II will never come to Steam, but I broke down and had to buy it on Epic. If it ever comes to GOG, I'll rebuy it there too because I love and want to support the game.

singleplayer experiences aren't always like this. but yeah sony and their second party studios (sony don't even make the games they just publish them) are kinda guilty of this

PC Gamer W!!! The real irony with Ponies is they hate multiplatform games. That is until they're Xbox games coming to PS5. As I've said lets see how they feel if they have to sign into a Microsoft account for every Xbox game they play.
