Hi Ed and greetings from England. I had every Elvis album on vinyl every uk release and us release as well albums imported from all over the globe. Regrettably sold them all to help raise a deposit on a house many years ago. Always regretted it. Anyway in later life i found myself in a better financial position with plenty of time on my hands. I began to replace my collection with Cd,s. Today i have over 400 Cd,s all FTD box sets and sessions and have built up an awesome collection. I Wanted to impress on you, is that if your like me and have the collecting fever you will not stop at just the half a dozen or so missing titles. There is a Cd equivalent of every album release. Best of luck and keep on enjoying your collection.!!

Agree Ed, I’m glad I kept my original 80’s and 90’s CD’s as well as the new crop of 2000 onwards re-masters, pre the 2007 re-re-masters. The US 1992 Elvis In Concert is worth getting too to end the original albums. There have been the odd Camden releases over the years too.

The LP of Pure Gold has Kentucky Rain in ERS! as well as Fever and all the 1950s material. The CD is a much better release.

Thanks for this video Ed, always interesting to see what other fans have in their stash. I went on a binge earlier this year, buying up CD compilations of Elvis albums that I didn't have in vinyl, cassette or CD. (left my original vinyls behind with exhusband in 1977). So after years of only having a few CDs and LPs I suddenly decided I needed to have the lot, regardless of what format it was on. As my record cabinet was full, I figured CDs take up less space, so that's what I focussed on. I was pleased to find two CD sets that had four albums in each set. "Four Classic Albums" consists of 2 CDs with 2 albums on each - A Date With Elvis, Elvis is Back, Something for Everybody and Pot Luck. "Four Classic Albums plus Third Set" consists of 2 CDs with the albums Elvis Presley, Loving You, Elvis' Golden Records, Elvis' Golden Records Vol.2 and another album called Rock'n'roll which according to the leaflet inside appears to have originated in either the UK or Brazil....I can't figure it out! Both these sets were produced by 'Avid Entertainment UK'. RCA or Sony aren't mentioned on the label. My ears are not as finely attuned as yours and other KZbinrs who can detect what I would call minor variations in the sounds of original soundtracks and re-released versions. I'm happy to have just one version of each song, although in my blind rush to try and rebuild my Elvis collection, I have an awful lot of duplicates

Ed, I agree with you that some of those early Elvis cd’s, from 1988-1991, contain some great mastering, care of Rick Rowe. Of special interest, check out, “Elvis Is Back” and “Pot Luck”, they sound extremely good, lots of punch, less compressed, if you will. 😊 Oh, and you’re missing, 1965’s, “Elvis For Everyone”.

What a cool collection! My Mom was a huge Elvis fan and had every original LP and all of his original 45s from 1956 to about 1978. Then when I got older, I completed the entire collection the best I could. It was alot of fun! I love those old RCA Victor labels. I saw where you were talking about saving some items that your parents were getting rid of. I sure wish I had done the same thing. I distinctly remember my mother throwing away an Elvis record player, along with so many giant pictures that I would love to have framed now! So much stuff that I can't think about it to much or I'd cry. Lol😂 It's really fun watching your videos Ed!

Hey Ed I think the original CD releases are actually a little different from the vinyl mixes. The FTD issues are closer to the original vinyl mixes when I did a comparison on my system. The FTD's are superior in sound on the most part.

That Gold Records V2 was the last time the album version of Doncha Think It's Time was on that title. All Gold Records V2 CDs since then use the single version (FTD excepted).

Elvis Fool LP was discontinued only a few months after release. It was not make available until this CD came out. Many charged a PREMIUM for this CD based on the LP's scarcity.

The Japanese blue ring Elvis Country is my favourite, superb. Anything that starts with 'ND' is international rather than Victor, it’s what we mostly got in Europe so usually poor sound! The Fool Album is quickly becoming a favourite of mine after your recent review.

A Great CD Collection Ed. It was really exciting collecting Elvis CD's from different Countries back in the 1980's/early 1990's from Germany, Japan and the USA! Nearly Every Release of these CD's sounds different because of the "Masters Recordings" the Company of each Country have for the new format! Germany was very good (the CD's really sounds like the ORIGINAL Master on Vinyl, without crackles of course, LOL, absolutely perfect) Japan CD Releases have a whole lot of hiss (Niagara Falls Feeling on every CD Sound ) and MOST of the US are much too clean (incl Stereo Channel reversed on some of the CD Releases; "Blue Hawaii" is a good example) and very very low flat high/bass because to eliminate the Mastertape "hiss"...not so good; no way! @ as an example: "HOW GREAT THOU ART" 1st CD Editions: USA a totally clean Digital lifeless Remastering, Japan a better Sound Quality but with a lot of hiss; Germany the one and only MONO Master Recording on a regular RCA CD (a few weeks later, it was released as a beautiful Stereo CD Version) @@ The 4 Electronically Stereo Reprocessed USA CD's (Elvis Presley, Elvis, Gold 1, Gold 2) are real CD Collectors Items and very high pricey; crazy but true!

Elvis Separate Ways came out in 1985 on RCA Camden - CCD-2611. Definitely worth getting. Only 2 on discogs. I had to pay about £50 for mine in the UK.

The Complete Masters, although not quite complete (Single version of Long Lonely Highway? LP version of A Little Less Conversation?) Thankfully they did include the original master, the single version of ALLC which is not easy to find on CD. Incidentally, both versions are on Double Features CD, but they confuse the two in the description.

I have a standalone CD of "Pot Luck" I bought ages ago, only year listed was 1962. A vintage lightning RCA logo on the disc, but no outer ring. Can't remember if I bought it in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Bought it because my aunt gave me her copy of the original album years earlier, which I still have. Her copy is on vinyl, well worn, and has lipstick marks on the cover, and she wrote "Mona Loves Elvis" on the jacket. Not parting with it however, even though I also have the big 60 CD set.

Ed, you have The Album Collection. With that you only need to own a few others to have a complete album collection on CD, a few of which you already own. But you are right, the box set is not the definitive for every album. Some are but the worst ones are For LP Fans Only and A Date With Elvis. They go back to the 50s boxset as their definitive masters, which it a shame. Kevan Budd has greatly improved on most of the 50s material since then.

WWGAH second STEREO CD actually has quite a few tracks in mono. They include: Where Do You Come From, Return To Sender, Bossa Nova Baby, One Broken Heart For Sale, Devil In Disquise, If I Can Dream, Don't Cry Daddy. It also has the wrong take of Anything That's Part Of You, and Kentucky Rain is the same mix as on The Memphis Record. Many people through the years have taken it at face value that CD2 is all in stereo. In fact they moved Crying In The Chapel and Viva Las Vegas to CD 1 ADMITTING they were moved because they did not have stereo masters at the time for these tracks and did not want the "jarring" experience for listens to have to move between mono and stereo randomly. It makes me wonder if Elvis collectors even LISTEN to their collection! Another alternate take was used on Elvis In Nashville for Anything That's Part Of You. THAT makes me wonder if people at RCA/BMG/Sony even listen to the products they put out. They have collectively made so many editorial mistakes through the years going all the way back to the 1950s that I trust them as far as I can throw them. Around the same time Top Ten Hits had similar and also unique anomalies. The EU release of All Time Greatest Hits fared better, but still had a oouple of editorial problems.

One way to get MOST all of them, is to procure the Danish Fan Club box set "The Original Elvis Presley Collection". It has Double Features to make up the 1960s Soundtrack songs. It BOASTS it has ALL the soundtrack songs in this collection. THEY LIE! Partially because For LP Fans Only and A Date With Elvis are the UK versions of the albums. Which means the Jailhouse Rock material is missing. You're So Square, I Want To Be Free, Young And Beautiful and the Jailhouse Rock version of Don't Leave Me Now which is also missing from any original US LP release are nowhere to be found in this box set! But you get Let Me from Love Me Tender which was missing from the US LPs. Whoop-de-doo. It also picks up I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine which is not on any original US LP until the Sun Sessions from 1976. So if you get this set, AND The Complete Masters and the Album Collection, which you already have, you are about 80% there getting variants of mixed and masters. The rest can be had piecemeal. Do yourself a favor and get Promised Land expanded, which came out in 2000. It is the best sounding release of December Stax sessions.

Elvis For Everyone came in 4 iterations on CD. (outside of FTD), They go back and forth on the slowed down but always dubbed version of Tomorrow Night, some mono some ERS. Some had ERS on Sound Advice, others mono. Some have mono on other songs, others stereo. It would take a chart to delineate each song on each of the 4 CDs. The first iteration has the wrong take of In My Way. My favorite iteration is on the Box Set 20 Original Albums and its ONLY real flaw is the proper slowed down version of Tomorrow Night is in ERS! BOO! And Santa Lucia has not yet been released in Stereo, The Album Collection rectifies that for this title. The Album Collection has too much reverb on Memphis. The stereo of Summer Kisses, is reversed once again. The 20 Album Collection has it proper. The Album Collection has the best Tomorrow Night, oh yeah. Owning all 4 illustrates the frustration AND fascination of different masterings, mixes and even erroneously released alternate takes one encounters collecting Elvis. The first one came out in 1990, the "corrected" one came out in 1995. Also the 20 Original Albums of Welcome to My World is different than the 1980s CD, especially Your Cheatin' Heart and Make The World Go Away (one has the spliced master, the other a complete unspliced take). If you are interested in all the various masters released through the years on CD, you are going to pass Alice in the rabbit hole by miles. Sorry for the disjointed delivery, I edited this post a few times, screwing up the flow. Too lazy to start over. As for the EFE LP. It is worth getting a stereo AND a mono copy. For the stereo you get the glorious stereo mixes of I Met Her Today, Finders Keepers Losers Weepers, For The Millionth And The Last Time but the rest of the LP is plagued with ERS. So, the remedy at the time is the mono LP. Since then, most of the other songs which were recorded in stereo have had those stereo masters discovered. Of course this precludes the 50s material. And save for Angel and the outtakes, none of the other Follow That Dream material has been found in stereo, even though it was recorded. Someone stole it or it was lost and destroyed. In fact often with the title track, they resort to an alternate take when they want to put it out in stereo such as on The Essential 60s Masters V2.

Couple years ago I started picking up the original cd releases I hadn’t purchased back when they first came out. Have been able to pick most of them up fairly cheap. My concern is at some point those original cd pressings may become a hot collectible and the price may noticeably jump.

It is a shame that the Legendary Performer CDs were truncated for the 2nd line budget market. It would be nice if Sony did a vol 1-4 set (but I would put the interviews on a separate CD). They also need to do the WWGAH V1 and V2 proper release, all deluxed up!

The "Elvis in the 90s" CDs were a valiant attempt to straighten out the catalog, but they still fell short. I think they must have a fear of competition. Each attempt falls short. Another example is when they reissued the Camdens. They got them all EXCEPT C'mon Everybody. How can you leave out ONE? If you have to leave one out, how about Hits From His Movies Vol 1.

Is it just me , or , does anyone else hate the way cd's come now ? I miss the plastic cases cd's use to come in ! I despise the way they come now ! ! ! The cardboard cases get worn so easily . And , the cd's seem to get scratched sliding them in and out of their sleeves?
