Joel Klatt joins Colin Cowherd to discuss the latest college football news, including the firing of USC head coach Clay Helton. Klatt shares his list of head coaches to call if he were USC's athletic director, noting: Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer, Eric Bieniemy, and Josh McDaniels. He also further breaks down his head coaching criteria and explains why he prefers coaches who have 'NFL DNA and charisma.' Hear what Klatt has to say about Ohio State as Big Ten favorites after their loss against Oregon, along with Steve Sarkisian's decision to switch quarterbacks at Texas. Klatt also discusses whether a win against Auburn puts Penn State in the playoffs and previews Nebraska - Oklahoma on Big Noon Kickoff.

UCLA pushed LSU around. Oregon pushed OSU around, maybe just maybe the PAC-12 isn’t soft, not sure when that narrative went mainstream but Westcoast kids are some of the toughest. Michigan St grad so I have no dog in the fight. Give credit where credit is due.

That UCLA game angered me as an LSU man, but on the field action trumps whatever perception a team may have. I hope UCLA is the real deal and not a repeat of the Mississippi State opener last year. Miss St. went on to look pedestrian at best. Love💜Live💛

I think people forget as far as Oregon goes Cristobal has completely switched the Oregon motto. It used to be speed and quickness he brought the SEC mentality in and Oregon is really tough now. And Moorhead knew how to beat OSU. Chip Kelly is also one of the best college coaches ever and looks like he’s brought the best out of UCLA. PAC 12 is definitely on its way back up imo

It's all the media propagating this angle that West Coast teams are "Soft." When USC was up during the Pete Carroll era they use to make SEC teams their b*tch. The California Schools in the PAC 12, CAL, UCLA, USC are 13-3 vs the SEC since 2000. Soft my A$$.
@bryon5284
@bryon5284 2 жыл бұрын
The reason why the pac 12 as a whole get pushed around is because we have better eating habits on the west coast. Kids are more slimmer than ever before. Also, and parents want their kids to be DB's, WR's and basketball players. Mid-west and south couldn't careless about Vegan and Keto diets. Lastly, Kelly and Cristobal are not from West Coast so they wouldn't understand

I saw yesterday's show where Colin spoke 💯 facts about the USC HC search and also mention the Miami Hurricanes as well. LA and Miami are both huge cities and coaches want to have total control over those schools, which is why both schools right now is struggling to be a top tier college football team. They need to go after a NFL type coach or something in order to have credibility and relevancy.

USC was a top 3/5 job 20 years ago. Now, maybe a top 10 job, but the lack of investment in the program, lack of willingness to spend on their staff (Take Bama for example. It's staff, not counting saban, makes more that most coaches+staff in an entire g5 conference combined), lack of push for new facilities and boosters/too many cooks in the kitchen (the same issue that plagues Texas and Michigan). Until USC fixes the spending issue and the running the program issue, they're going to continue to take a back seat.

He meant the last 12 years of course, but the bigger problem with that analysis is that four of those losses came in the scandal and sanction years. Of course they had trouble beating tough opponents when they had 65 scholarships and a postseason ban and a lot of their best payers transferred out. I'm not complaining about the sanctions, they were well deserved, but it's silly to ignore them when looking at wins and losses in those years.

After watching today's Washington State game I believe Donte Williams is a serious candidate to be our next head coach. USC looked like the USC of old. And He looked like a USC coach should look. They played with lot's of emotion and as a team all feeding off their coach's energy. He loves his players and they love playing for him. Personally I am cheering for Donte Williams to be our next head coach. I did not know whether he was ready or not, but today he looked every bit the part. He had everyone going, the other coaches and the players. It should be very interesting to see how the season plays out. Also it would be so wonderful to finally have a black man as our head coach. And I say this as a White USC Almunus. I would be thrilled to see him win the job. From what I have seen so far He is very well qualified for the position. He looks like the best candidate to me so far. And the best man should get the job. I am cheering for him because he has everyone working as a team together as one. Everyone is involved again knowing they can see the field at any time. They believe in each other and believe they can win, Fight On.

Love to Klatt/Herd chemistry, just wish they weren’t so biased towards BIG10 thanks to being with Fox

USC is definitely not a top 3 job. LA is a recruiting hot bed but these high schoolers have never seen USC be relevant. They’ve seen Oregon, Ohio State, Bama, Clemson be relevant. USC is way more appealing to old people than it is to teenagers

Love Joel Klatt but I'm sorry, USC is not a top 3 job lol. Last few coach searches it wasnt like dudes were lining up for the job. Is USC bigger than Oklahoma or Texas football? How about Alabama and Ohio st?

I'd argue at the moment it's not bigger or more attractive than Oregon. Of course I'm slightly biased. But the idea the Pac-12 is desperate for them to be the corner stone is ridiculous.

@@kyletucker3811 if oregons brand was as strong as usc christobal wouldn't even be mentioned on anyone's list. No one would have him on a list if they didn't think it was an upgrade

It is a top 3 job you just don’t understand why but when they hire the right guy then you will see why it’s a too 3 job.

Think getting Eric from the Chiefs would be my ideal, but if he gets offered a pro hc job. He will prob take that first.

Funny how tOSU’s over 600 yards on offense is a reflection of Oregon’s defense.

The first thing USC needs to understand that they are NOT special. This is the same thing that Miami has struggled with because they are too hung up on past glory. It is foolish to believe that Dabo wouldn't work at USC.
