It's one game. If Oregon takes this game and plays like this the rest of the season, I'll say it was a milestone game. The main reason I don’t put too much blame on the players is because Alabama, Clemson and Georgia get the same caliber players but they consistently have elite defenses. When things need to be fix and don't get fix he’ll finds someone who will fix it. We need Ryan Day to be that ruthless. Coombs and Washington must go.

@@brunomars204 Yeah, it seems Oregon has rounded out its program over the last 10-15 years. The Ducks had a novel offense that no one could adjust to before. They've parlayed the success that come from that into successful recruiting for a much broader set of skills, it seems to me. The beautiful campus in Eugene helps with the recruiting as well, I think.

@@brunomars204 I liked Arik Armstead and Deforest Buckner as DE's. Those two were huge 6'8 280+ power forwards. We just needed linebackers like Justin Flowe and Noah Sewell to to help stop Zeke from getting into that secondary. But we got the dline as well as the linebacking core now. The only thing im a bit worried about with the defense is the secondary. After the Chip era, we went big and have cashed out big so far, but now it's our little guys back there who are struggling lol.

@zeaferjones14043 жыл бұрын
@@brunomars204 The weird thing is Mariota only played one season with Chip. Had those two been together that itself would have been huge. Also Chip Kelly had great defenses because of Aliotti. Although they were small, speedy and great tacklers but not big and athletic like they are now. However Aliotti retired when Chip went to the Eagles so Mariota didn't have him either except for his freshman year and the defense definitely dropped off after that until Critobal took over. So I do agree with you but at the same time if Mariota would have had the fast defense Oregon had in 2010 that did a good job shutting down Cam Newton it would have been different let alone this defense which is big, strong and pretty fast themselves. The Oregon team that played Auburn in 2010 was an all around juggernaut it's just Darron Thomas wasn't the playmaker that Cam Newton was and Auburn keyed in on Lamichael James. When Mariota played Ohio State he not only didn't have the greatest coaching but he was playing with mainly second string players. Oregon's second string basically beat Florida St because of how good Mariota was but then Mariota lost his last WR to a drug test right before Ohio State so he had literally nobody he trusted to throw it to. Chip and Mariota together would taken a lot of the pressure of Mariota because Mariota was basically the coach after Chip left.

@leisuresuitlarry49903 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that was a great game. The reason things are changing here at Oregon is recruiting. Oregon’s problem has always been we didn’t have the big uglies up on the line. Our scheme was always depending on speed and relying on outscoring you. Mario Cristobal has built a program based on what he learned at Alabama. Oregon’s problem has consistently been they could not close games out against the “SEC type” of teams. We would always get out muscled at the end of the game. That’s what happened last time we played Ohio State, and everyone saw what happened against Auburn in the national championship. Also, the fact that Oregon was able to do this without their two best players on defense, and arguably the best defense of player in ALL of college football speaks volumes! This is not the same Oregon football that people are used to seeing. This is not a team that’s going to run up 60 points a game while giving up 61 anymore. I wish you buckeyes fans luck for the rest of the season, but this is a completely different team schematically for Oregon than anybody has ever seen before.

I absolutely agree about the defense! The edge was abandoned even after 2 TD scored that way. Oregon exploited the Buckeye D completely. It seemed that all coaches on the Bucks were holding back all game looking past this game to the rest of the season. I did not understand why we ran up the middle as it was stuffed most of the game. The deep routes should have been shelved as Stroud needs more game maturity before they can be added to the arsenal ( too many small factors that make ball placement difficult for such an inexperienced QB, too much on his plate). The short flat and medium passes are where he did the most damage. I do not see anyone referring to the awful officiating where multiple blatant calls on both sides were ignored and a few petty calls weee given only to the Bucks. The end zone PI should have kept the drive alive in the 3rd quarter and there is zero excuse why the targeting against Olave wasn’t called!

Agreed as an Oregon fan I'm still a bit worried. I feel like this offense is still a bit too conservative. We have the talent to be explosive. I'm not truly convinced that the coaches the AB is the guy to open up this offense. He makes us good enough on offense to compete but good enough isn't going to cut it to win a natty

Fair and objective analysis - Signed Buckeye Nation. Basic Fundamentals of Defense were absolutely lacking in this game from Ohio State and this is a REAL problem. They have the players, they didn't execute, they failed repeatedly at basic stuff and zero pressure on QB. OSU must shake it up and this means top to bottom. Very disappointed

Joey klatt is so biased against Oregon. Fourth quarter, when an OSU forced a three out, they both cry out. Comparing to Oregon pick, silence for several seconds.

@@david3oSeven The bias is easy to hide afterwards, but almost impossible when game is live. When an OSU is down by two TDs, joey was constantly talking about the OSU adjustments to stop Oregon. Doubt it but they might. They beat Fresno st and an osu team that struggled against Minnesota. Alabama, Georgia are obvious. I actually think Iowa may be top 5 after back to back weeks convincingly defeating number 17 and number 9. UCLA is a possibility. They’ll likely try to force their favorites (OU, Notre dame and Clemson) in there somehow

Obviously the OSU defense needs work. That's now a given. But the thing I am not hearing about is the imbalance in the offense...where was the run game? OSU works the big play offense from play action, which can't happen if there is no strong running game. There were some issues with play calling that seem to be going under the radar. We can't put this entire team on Stroud. Balance is key, and it was missing in this game.

Buckeyes fan here. Our defense is the achilles heel of this team. Defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs should be fired after this season. Not having his players set the edge game in and game out is inexcusable. Oregon players picked up massive amounts of yardage going around both ends of the defense. No line pressure on Oregon's quarterback was bewildering especially when you consider all the talent this team has stockpiled. Not having your players on defense ready to play the game is on Kerry Coombs. The dude needs to go.

Congratulations to the Ducks. This was hard to stomach as a life long Buckeye fan. I don’t understand why a defensive (or offensive) coordinator is on the sidelines?
