Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain of restaurants that started in Portland, Oregon, USA.

I think in most of North America, it's soup OR salad, salad is usually thought of as an appetizer or add on and not the main dish. But I'm sure most places would sell both, it's not a steadfast rule just how most menus are set up. I love the Old Spaghetti Factory.... the warm bread... fresh made garlic butter, I could eat just that and be happy!

I nearly died of laughter at the gloves thing 😂😭. Lia as you walked out of the restaurant I noticed the lump in your beanie but thought maybe you had your hair in a bun or a pony, and it was your gloves 😂😂 #dead ☠️ I can’t stop watching this, you keep tugging and pulling at your beanie as your walking out , probably cuz it keeps sliding off, but it’s because your gloves are in there and you have no idea! 😂 honestly thank you so much for this unintentional laugh.

The salt & pepper not being on the table is likely a Covid-19 measure. You could have asked for it.
@kristaferailslieger4906
@kristaferailslieger4906 2 жыл бұрын
I think the absence of salt (and pepper) is a Covid thing. Back when the pandemic started and they thought it might be spread by contact, all the restaurants removed all of the things from the tables that would normally remain as customers came and went. This was a “safety measure” to make customers feel safe. For some reason, even though we now know that Covid doesn’t spread that way, most restaurants have not reverted back. It’s kind of annoying.

Yes. I carry both salt and pepper packets in my wallet wherever I go. That way it doesn't matter if I visit a friend who doesn't use salt, or a restaurant that happens to be out... Or whatever the circumstance may be. Some people like salt that you have to grind on the spot and the granuals never are fine enough. I just pull a packet of regular salt out and I'm good.
@Parker-930

Salt and pepper are available on request at every restaurant, because of Covid. No need to feel annoyed.
@trevorforrester3142
@trevorforrester3142 2 жыл бұрын
That has not been my personal experience... I have actually been to places that were out of salt packets... Also been to convenient stores that were out as well. Most of all I've been to the home of different people who prepared a beautiful meal, but they personally had cut salt out of their diet or simply didn't believe in salt for whatever reason, which is fine to make changes in your personal life for better health reasons, however, they didn't think about having it on hand for guest purposes. OR, they will have some wooden contraption that grinds the salt on the spot, which never seems to grind it evenly leaving big chunks of salt behind. This is why I keep packets with me in my wallet. There are 2 things that can never be debated, and that's "preference",. and personal experiences. A person's preference is their preference... You'll never talk someone into liking onions if they don't like onions, and if someone's experiences is they've been places that didn't have salt.. you can't tell them their personal experience is not true.. end of story.
@Parker-930

@@trevorforrester3142 - we’re talking restaurants here. You ask for salt or pepper. They will bring it to you. Not packets. The salt and pepper shakers.

I went out to a dinner function Friday night at a chain restaurant (hadn't been out in ages) and there was no salt/pepper shakers or packets of sweetener on the tables which in the past is normal. The silverware was in sealed paper sleaves. It's totally a covid thing.

They may not have salt and pepper shakes because of the pani 19. Canada seems stricter than the US and when we were more strict restaurants didn’t leave salt and pepper because they have to sanitize it after every customer. Maybe this way they only have to sanitize the shakers that are used.

The restaurants on The Esplanade were a favorite of my parents when I grew up. The Old Spaghetti Factory hasn't changed one bit! I loved the warm bread and main dishes but I was never a fan of the spumoni. We also used to go to Scotland Yard, but I think that one is long gone. I'm glad that you enjoyed your meal. Now I am waiting for your final livestream of the trip

I miss the Spaghetti Warehouse in Downtown Houston. It was housed in a warehouse built in 1912 along Buffalo Bayou (the primary "river" that runs through the city) and is reportedly haunted. Sadly, after too many floods with Hurricane Harvey being the final straw it closed down and evolved into a modern bistro in a shopping center. I grew up in the 70s going there with my family and it had the similar antique Victorian vibes to probably all similar concepts. Hot sour dough bread and spumoni ice cream. Great place to take out of towners. Totally unique. Yum!

Major references to Portland, Oregon, in this episode. Joel is wearing a Columbia Sportswear jacket. Columbia Sportswear was founded and is based in Portland. And the Old Spaghetti Factory was started, and all the restaurants are owned by -- not franchised -- a Portland company. Such a pity. Experiencing Portland in Montreal.

There's an Old Spaghetti Factory in San Jose, California where I moved in 1977 for university and stayed until 2016. As a student, it was one of the few restaurants where my friends and I could afford a meal, and the food was great. (The decor in San Jose looks just like this one in Toronto.) And it's still just as good! I usually just get the regular spaghetti with meat sauce and it never disappoints.

"Leanne (aged 6 at the time) said I'm talking to the old lady, it turned out the old lady was a ghost from Victorian times, she had a winsette on (that's an old fashioned nightie), just to let you know, Bye the way I miss Helena, please have her back, if you don't I'll stop all recipes to Joels P.O BOX, Best regards ,Choppy from Whitehaven in Cumbria

We used to have a Spaghetti Factory not far from my house, downtown. Then about years ago it randomly closed. Then it suddenly opened up again..about 5 yra ago..and there more locations too. My brother worked there when he was a Sr. in H.S. I'm so jealous. I haven't been there in awhile. You guys reminded me how much I love that they bring their fresh warm homemade bread, and the garlic butter..mmmm...so good! Then they opened up a bunch of "Bucca de Beppos." First couple of years okay, but not as good for me taste wise. Then they changed the menu. Food taste and selection very different. I wasn't a fan at after that. It's been a long time since I've been there, so maybe it's better now. Macaroni Grill..whatever..for me. They both never compared to "Old Spaghetti Factory"... classic..."And I've always said it." 🤣
