7-11 has a cool history: Started in 1927 in Dallas selling just ice as the Southland Ice Company. Later added eggs, milk, bread, etc. The funny thing was some store(s) in Austin during the 60s changed from 7AM-11 PM to 24-hours because of the nearby University of Texas campus and their football games causing late night demand.

In the '80's and '90's (back when I used go to 7/11's) It was all about the coffee. 7/11 used to take great pride in the quality and freshness of their coffee, at least in NY they did. People would vote which one had the best coffee and that particular store would display it with pride. Another point of pride was neatness/cleanliness. I don't think they care as much about the coffee and cleanliness anymore. I can't even find a 7/11 here (in ME) anymore. They all closed.

Same. I want to send her 10 different boxes of crackers so she can try each kind and figure out what they were. MaryAnne, she said square so that rules out Club crackers. The secret to why we love Slushies is that they are so good at cooling you down on a hot summer day, when the temps are over 100, nothing cools you off faster.... When I worked at Burger King I would walk from the bus stop to work, about 3 blocks, in summer it would be over 100, I would get to work maybe 20 minutes early, immediately grab a slushie, and walk into the freezer and drink it over the course of like 10 minutes, by the time I walked out and started getting ready for my shift it was as if it was a pleasant fall day, I was cooled inside and out, and felt great.

The origin of 7-ELEVEN has nothing to do with items costing $7 or $11. It had to do with its open hours, from 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening. Back in the 1960s, when it became popular in the USA, many stores didn't open until later in the morning, like 9:00 AM, and they closed by 7:00 PM. So being open for those hours was a huge improvement over most other stores at the time.

Ohh you guys are making me homesick! I am a US transplant here in the UK. I love it yet these are my stomping grounds! My friend's dad owned a7-11 and it was like candy euphoria and Slurpee euphoria for us! I am sure we were on a sugar high! I miss mixing my flavors and layering them at the Slurpee machine and trying not to get a brain freeze! xx

I never thought 7/11 would be a tourist attraction 😂 they’re all over the US. Love the assumptions again. It’s called 7/11 because it’s open during those times. Learned that only a few years ago after living here for 8 years 😂 I hope one day Lia will find those crackers she’s looking for.

It was first introduced in 1920 by the Williamson Candy Company of Chicago. Legend has it that, Oh Henry! was originally named after an electrician who frequented the Williamson Candy Company, flirting with the girls who made the candy. The name is also said to be a homage to American writer O. Henry.

The name "7-11" refers to the hours they were originally open. Back in the 70s and before, stores didn't stay open 24 hours. They were open from 8 or 9 AM to 9PM. 7-11 was open from 7AM to 11PM which was a huge range back then. They were the only store open to serve workers who had to get up early or work very late.

I thought 7 eleven were world wide? We’ve had them in Australia since 1977. So funny seeing someone try 7 eleven for the first time 😂 The slurpee is an icon. You can get good and bad ones though depending on wether the machine is set correctly. It shouldn’t be too wet but should be icy. There have been so many flavours over the years. In the summer they are refreshing as. Not really something you buy when it’s 5 degrees lol

I love 7/11 Slurpee's!! My favorite flavor is Coca-Cola. And yes you can mix flavors and you're supposed to fill to the top. Most people put on the lid before filling up their cup. The reason it's called 7/11 is because that's there hours. I believe Lia is in search of Keebler's Club Cracker. It comes in a Green Box and the crackers are in individual sleeves in the box and the sleeves are clear.

The store was named after its store hours… from 7AM until 11PM. Prior to the 70’s store hours usually opened from 10AM until 6PM. It was revolutionize to open so early that you could get gas & coffee before going to work & close late enough to catch munchies.

7-11's are an American staple. It's a catch all mini store providing the basics, milk eggs, sugar. Then there is gas ⛽ and all of the in-between items. Most 7-11 are open 24 hrs which is great for late night and early mornings runs for basic items.

Love this video! It's fun to see things we're so used to in the eyes of people for whom it's a wonder because it's their first time. Joel you really should go back and get some jerky or dried beef sticks. They are wonderfully addictive and what helped people survive long treks through the wilderness. (You need strong jaws, though.) The best ones can be found at a good butcher shop. Those are freshly made. Slushies are wonderful on a HOT day. Not so much on a cold windy one. And yes, you need to sip, not take a big slurp, cause brain freeze hurts!

As Americans, we know what the worst places to eat already are. And yes, we are ashamed of them. And a good many of us just avoid them. It's unfortunate that you may never know what excellent regional cooking is really like in America. It's not at many restaurants. It's definitely not in fast-food. It's made at home from the broad range of cookbooks available in our country. It comes from recipes handed down from generation to generation. And a very good place to find some I understand is at the many Goodwill's and thrift shops in just about any city. Often KZbin videos will have cooking tips, recipes and classes. I hope you get to have some real American home cooking someday!!

There used to be a ton of 7-11s in the U.S but very few are left. They're mainly just in Asia now. The big one here is Quick Trip (at least here in the South), they're very clean and nicely kept. A lot of gas stations have their own convenience stores.

Since the 7-11 in the video was in Toronto shouldn't the thumbnail have a Canadian flag instead of an American flag on it? The boneless wings 7-11 sells are pretty good for a convenience store. Oh Henrychocolate bars have existed in Canada for a long time. The addition of Reeces pieces is a recent combination. I'll bet it's tasty, though have never tried it.

Why there is a British flag. The Queen of England owns 90% of Canada. And 7/11 and everything in it is American. Look Mr proud Canadian, there are beautiful places in Canada, but I doubt they will ever go back. Toronto is like NYC without the excitement, and it's just too cold. Who wants to freeze when you can be in paradise in the tropics. Besides there are tons of great things to see and do in the United States, and this is where they make their money. They said long ago over 90% of their followers are from the USA, and KZbin is American. Canada gives them nothing. The United States gives them everything!
