The Heroes of Might and Magic series includes some games I greatly enjoyed (and some I know little about). But I'm not convinced they belong in the sub-genre this video is supposed to be about. The gameplay loop is recruit heroes to lead armies to grab resources with which to enlarge the armies and recruit more heroes, ultimately to capture the enemy castles. Yes there's a lot of kingdom management (so these are strategy games) but the heroes never appear together in the same battle as a party, and the way they level up is RPG-very-much-lite. The related Might and Magic games, on the other hand (VI to VIII being perhaps the pinnacle of the series) are party-based RPGs indeed.

Abandoned Children is pretty friendly to just dumping characters in your party and playing them with their core mechanics, customization never feels like it's necessary to devote too much time to it. But it is rewarding mechanically when you do. And there's that gorgeous boyish hero and rocking combat music.
