I very much emphasize with Andy's journey to wingsuit jumping, I'd never framed my personal journey that way, but it shares many similarities. I had a sever tbi when I was 22. That was my big one but growing up I got knocked several time. After the big one what followed was extreme depression, anxiety, fatigue, compulsive behaviors, ringing in the ears, vertigo, weight loss, memory issues, migraines and other physical pain, hearing loss, sensitivity to light and insomnia, etc PTSD was the diagnosis a few drs made, general anxiety and depression, situational anxiety and depression for a few other drs. I spent countless hours talking to medical experts and therapist and doing research on TBI. It’s close to 1/3 of men have TBI. After a TBI you’re about 50% more likely to have another TBI and there’s a significant increase in suicide rates for people who’ve had a moderate or sever TBI. Not only the suicide risk studies have shown TBI suffers have a shorter life span on average, something like 10 years less than those with out a TBI. I still struggle with some of those issues but what I can say for sure the best relief was exercise. Once I was physical able to exercise it was the only thing that gave me some temporary relief.

I can tell you the reason: most of the kids who shoot up a school are psychologically and socially marginalized by their peers and the school administration. They constantly get bullied (and by this I mean serious bullying, not someone calling you a few names here and there) and receive absolutely no assistance from teachers, principals, or any other adult. Eventually, these kids feel there's no hope and no solution for them. Their everyday life (which really amounts to high school, but when you're a teenager, that is your entire universe) is a complete nightmare and there's no help in sight. When this happens, often two plans of action result: they commit suicide or they kill others, which often results in suicide at the end anyway. So what's the solution? Give kids the support they need and by this I don't mean give them participation trophies, I mean take their issues seriously. If a teen goes to a teacher or a school administrator, those people should help them, not blame them as if often the case. If kids feel there's even one person with some authority who listens to them and takes their concerns seriously, that will drastically cut down on the number of suicides and homicides. But that won't happen because it's a tough fix. The easy solution to blame the kids who've been victims of bullying, blame guns, and blame video games. None of those require any real effort and if it's one thing it seems people hate, it's making an effort.
@settyrangel70935 жыл бұрын
Mike K I say those who do the school shootings have a mental problem. It doesn’t have to be the majority of bulling. It can all start when a kid at 8 year olds kills a innocent bird. It’s truly a tough question to answer on what actually causes teens to shoot up the school. Now as a solution I say there should be mandatory 1 hour therapy for these teens once a week. Because the teen mind is hectic. Ones body is experiencing chemicals and emotions that haven’t been experienced. We all experienced it ourselves. Like there’s over 300 emotional disorders. And in my psychology class. Each human has at least experienced one of those disorders through their lifetime. So if we are able to talk about let’s say our day. A goal recently accomplish. It can prevent through therapy a student shooting up the school.

@MikeTXBC5 жыл бұрын
@@settyrangel7093 As someone with an advanced degree in psychology and the practical experience to go along with it, I can safely say that while some kids do have psychological disorders, many do not. They feel as if there's no hope and no way out of their situation and when someone is full of anger and despair, and feels like they have nothing to lose, that is when they become dangerous. I know because I felt the same way as a teen. Granted, the bullying I endured was more than your so-called "average" bullying, where my peers were literally out for blood. They wanted to seriously injure me and given enough time, probably would've killed me. The school administration did NOTHING about it, despite asking them for help. My parents tried as well and they were ignored. We even looked at going to court but that would've taken years and by then I'd be out of that hellhole. So yeah, I wanted to kill them and thought about shooting up the school. I didn't do it because I knew there was NO WAY that could possibly end well for me or my family, so the best course was to hang on and survive. Once I graduated high school I got as far away as possible. Seriously, I live in a different country now. Maybe I was just self-serving or had a lot of forethought (for a teenager) at the time, but not everyone is so lucky. Maybe they come home to an abusive family as well as the abuse they suffer at school. Whatever the case, these kids need help, which can be as little as simply listening to them and acknowledging their fears, concerns, and pain. You won't stop school shootings entirely, but if we give kids the help they desperately need, we could not only prevent these atrocities from happening, but maybe set some of these kids on the right path or at least help them to realize that there is life beyond the shitshow that is high school.

@45dudelove5 жыл бұрын
i agree with your statement but its easier said than done. the brotherhood he is speaking of takes a lot of development and shared experiences to reach and that is sometimes hard to replicate in regular situations. the question combat veterans have answered that most people dont is will the person next to me who calls me brother die for me and will i die for him. you have to ask yourself that question in a combat unit and honestly i hope no one has to have that question answered for them in the regular world. im sure you have seen that people who call you friend and brother alot of times will not be there for you in really stressful situations. the brotherhood of combat will put you over themselves and you will do the same for them. so the bortherhood he is talking about is not easy to come by or all that common.
@davidwennersten90255 жыл бұрын
I think it's achievable but it requires people to willingly place themselves in situations where they'll suffer with strangers, to accomplish a task, as a team, with almost no reward. I was navy (just a human forklift) and I was good friends with black, white, brown, yellow, rich, and poor. We were all the same in each other's eyes because we we're all equally fucked by the big blue dick of the Navy. I can't imagine the average American willing subjecting themselves to the life (even the relative comfortable life of the Navy compared to the Marines or army) I lived. We're getting soft... People don't want to sacrifice or suffer even if it'll make them a better person.

It's sad to hear that thes badasses will suffer a lot for the rest of their lives. They have sacrificed their bodies for this country. I hope the VA takes care of these dudes. I can understand a tiny bit about what he is going through. I have had a spinal fusion and it sucked and didn't do much at all.

Great Interview. I had a full spinal fusion with hardware, my Titanium Rods are broken in multiple areas, 2 surgeries (the 1st one nearly killed me) It has totally fucked-up my life, I would have been better off w/o surgery & working out to strengthen my back & the mental aspect, keeps the Mind Strong & Balanced. The Military Men & Women Deserve way Better than the VA at least in my State, They (VA) are Horrible in my State. Andy Stumpf gives me hope in being Strong & Overcoming my Obstacles. Wish you the Best. I am always interested to hear what other people have experienced with back surgery & how it affected their life. Thanks for sharing. What Andy says about The Military is on target.

It was a horrifying time but it forced me to focus on that one problem and how to solve it (with a tiny bit of help from the most magnificent healthcare professionals you could imagine). That mindset and sense of purpose was rather new to me and I liked it somewhat. Now that I'm virtually completely cured, and all the bullshit and mess (and then some) have returend, I kinda miss that feeling of determination and focus, I'll have to find that somewhere else. Don't miss my body trying to kill itself though... ^^

Been there with the nerve pain. Epsom salt baths for 30 minutes bro right before bed. Game changer.
@5alphaparticles5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I used to do this until I noticed Epsom salts (sulfites) triggered migraines and inflammation after a few baths. I've had consistently good results with cheap non-odized sea salt though but not table salt (halite) which also triggers migraines/inflammation, halite is often contaminated with heavy metals and petrochemicals so maybe that's it. That fancy pink Himalayan salt (halite, again) also causes inflammation. Cheap non-idiozed sea salt has been a game changer for me. Helps ease nausea when I have migraines so I can keep food down. But halite makes me sick to my stomach. They're both primarily sodium chloride but they have completely different effects on the body. One is bad for your health, the other soothes nerve pain and inflammation. Anyway. Long spiel, sorry. This salt discovery is huge for me. TLDR: Sea salt, good. Halite, bad. Epsom salts, not good if sulfite-intolerant.

STOP: Much of the US media is just feeding a constant stream of negative propaganda to the American people. Violent crime is as low as it's been in a quarter of a century, gender, LGBT, and race equality are at an all-time high. Unemployment hasn't been this low for 40-50 years. For the first time in a very long time, there are no significant wars. But good news doesn't sell...bad news sells. So we are told these are the WORST of times, then that message gets further amplified by social media. Russia has very little to do with this...we are doing this to ourselves. Bad news gets politicians elected and increasing ratings and viewership. Good news gets people to turn off the TV and not really care that much who they elect. What happened to the Travel Editor on CNN, or the Science Editor, where is Dr Sanjay Gupta on CNN...they have all been pushed off the air by CNN's new 24/7 toxic business model. Like the old newspaper saying back in the day..."If it bleeds..it leads.." = $$
@MoonChildMedia5 жыл бұрын
Except the real unemployment rate is 22% (see shadow stats). The US has been at war for 221 of the 243 years as a nation (google it). You need to stop listening to what government is telling you because they will always lie to make themselves look better. I do agree with you about the media. I kicked my t.v. to the curb years ago and don't miss it a bit.
@mboiko5 жыл бұрын
@@MoonChildMedia "For the first time in a very long time, there are no significant wars" But I wasn't talking specifically about the US...you are. As far as John Williams (long-term discouraged worker) unemployment numbers vs say U6 numbers...Where I once found them believable I no longer do. Why, because we now have a very large bubble of baby boomers reaching retirement that now totally skew his estimate for long-term discouraged workers. I would totally agree with you in the past that his numbers were close to the real unemployment number, but not anymore. In that same context...this is from CBS News. CLAIM: African-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-American unemployment have all reached their lowest levels ever. FACTS: True. The most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts black unemployment at 6.8 percent. The December rate was 6.6 percent. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the lowest ever was in May 2018 at 5.9 percent. For Hispanic-Americans, the unemployment rate hit 4.0 percent in January 2019, up from 4.3 percent in December 2018. For Asian Americans, the unemployment rate was 3.1 percent in January 2018, an increase from 2.1 percent in May 2018, the lowest on-record.

Jesus Crust two wrongs don’t make a right. The fact of the matter is that News Media in general is dishonest and wholly biased one way or another. Also, everyone is biased. That’s what happens when you choose one side over another. If you are for one thing then it’s only natural that you against the antithesis of that thing.
@mboiko5 жыл бұрын
@@charleshendrix3137 Yes but it's also true, discounting Fox News..the vast amount of the mainstream media leans hard Left. Hollywood leans hard Left. Most Newspapers lean hard Left...and many Colleges are so far Left these days they are in another zip code. But in the 60's, 70's, 80's and much of the 90's that's not the way it always was. Politicians on both sides worked together many times. This Black/White all or nothing...tribal "I'm totally right and you're totally wrong" idea has really only come on strong in the last 15+ years. Social media no doubt has played a significant role in this change...
