Joe is always talking about Miyamoto Musashi and the Book of 5 Rings, and Cory embodies alot of the things Joe loves alot about the book. I think Joe realized that so he was totally intrigued and really liked Cory bc of it, and who can blame him bc Sandman is a fascinating guy!! I dont think I've seen Joe that happy and engaged with anyone who wasnt a close buddy of his in a long, long time

Cory's self awareness of his emotions and how to handle them are why he's one of the most fluid strikers/fighters in UFC. Dude doesn't half ass it. He puts in the work it takes to be present and dialled in. Izzy is the same. He puts the work in to overcome the fear of stuff in fights so he can be lucid and see everything to be able to take risks in the pocket and have them pay off. Awesome to hear this stuff

If you go back to his fight with Petr Yan, you can see the turning point for him in terms of looking at the fight from a professional point of view. He even says it himself later on in interviews. That matchup is so intriguing, really curious to see if they are going to give Cory the Merab fight or are they actually going to schedule merab and Umar. If they make that fight, I think it makes more sense to give Cory the O’Malley fight as a title eliminator, if not they both will be sidelined for a while waiting for the winner of aljo and cejudo because I don’t think either of them will fight down against a lower ranked contender and it’s kind of unclear who should get a title shot next. Cory fought an amazing fight. But Rogan is wrong saying no brakes, 100% onslaught all 5 rounds. IMO Cory clearly slowed down and was slightly less aggressive, taking a little bit less chances after he dominated the first two rounds - knowing he was going to win on the cards. Would have been interesting to hear Rogan ask him about that. That was a very smart strategic move by Cory against a powerful dangerous Vera who gets rolling as fight continues.

@@curtyandrew9963, I feel like I used to enter the zone alot more when I was younger. Fully present in the moment, no trace of your own ego, as if I was watching "myself" live. Like you and Smedly Butler commented, the zone can be found in many, if not all, areas of life, from hunting, sports, art, social interaction and even video games. It seems to be a very powerful evolutionary trait that has helped us survive until now. I wonder if other organisms experience this, could it be a result of consciousness? I love it when Cory talks about the last minutes before walking out, each time that you get closer to the fight, your own mind plays tricks with you like you’re leading up into your own destruction. The true mind of a martial artist.

Sandhagen described the exact feeling I get from a deep adrenaline rush... like when there is an emergency or a bad injury I become really calm and extremely confident in my decision making... I often take authority of the situation and ppl just start obeying my directions. Its happened multiple times to me, and after awhile I started to notice it in the moment, and would often ask myself like "who tf is this guy?" I wish I could be in that state of mind all of the time. I can only imagine how great that would feel amidst a UFC top contender fight.

What's up man, I almost never comment on KZbin but because you stated your wish to have that state of mind more often I felt like recommending you the book ''A New Earth'' by Eckhart Tolle. If it feels right to you just look it up and see if you ever feel like reading it. It has personally done a lot for me and might help you get closer to your wish. Take care and best wishes man

This dude has the will to be a champion. I love how in tune with himself he is & how he takes the time to learn from mistakes & push himself to limits just to test himself out. He does everything it takes to be great. That being said, Sandhagen Vs O'Malley would be an epic battle. I can't be the only one hoping the universe has that one in the works for a future banger. 🤞 Those are my top 2 favorite fighters. Both of them are truly impressive.

I can admit that I thought Cory had reached his zenith when Yan bested him pretty clearly, and he had a tough one against TJ (although I agree he won) that he'd become a gatekeeper for the top 5. Happy to say he's proved me wrong, I think he could avenge those losses to Yan and Sterling at this moment. Looking forward to seeing more from him.

The way Cory describes his thoughts during the fight is what I call Hyper-Focus. It's a period of time where time almost doesn't seem to exist like we know it. Your thoughts are in full motion on what you are focusing on like movements in this case and nothing else matters. Any possible distractions seem to not exist. It is a non-emotional state of mind.

I swear I’ve experienced what he mentioned. I know it’s an overused euphemism but I call it the eye of the tiger. If you experience that during a fight… I truly believe the opponent is going to lose.

Corey used to train at a local gym. He was kind enough to give my buddy a pair of nice shorts to train in when he couldn’t afford them himself. I really like chito but I’m rooting for Corey in any fight after he did that good dude

I'm glad Corey won, but it was a SPLIT DECISION according to the judges, which is beyond ridiculous. For a second, when the scorecards were being read, I said out loud, "wow, they are about to rob this man of a clear, dominant win." Thankfully it didn't happen, but my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach when the second judge gave the fight to Chito 48-47.

There's no way that Chito won the fight and that judge should really be scrutinized. Makes me think they had money on it.
@TheElbowMerchant
@TheElbowMerchant Жыл бұрын
@ReppeNThA707 For real. I can see how Chito won one round, MAYBE. But the judge that gave Chito 3 rounds was either completely blind, or was paid for fabricating that score.
@BazookaTooth707

@@TheElbowMerchant I think it's pretty obvious that judges have a job that is more than just judging a fight. There have been far too many questionable scores and decisions over the last couple of years. Like blatant and brazen robberies that make you question the legitimacy of the sport.

@ReppeNThA707 No argument here. Incompetence only explains so much, but when it happens ALL THE TIME, people are going to come to the conclusion that it's direct financially-motivated corruption.

its interesting when cory talks about how he first needed to know that he could be this vicious violent beast, so that he knew he could become that if he needed. but now that he has that knowledge and ability; he allows himself to be a lot more calm and calculated, both in the realm of just fighting but also for his future life. this is almost parallel to what dr jordan peterson talks about when he says its important to know how to be completely vicious and a monster first, and then learn to control it and use it when necessary. and then he goes one step further and talks about how fighters have the capability for a tremendous amount of violence and damage, but the best and smartest fighters know not to escalate and only use violence at the last possible moment. it all comes full circle
