Now that im out and I havs 2 little boys, I look at them as think how extremely lucky I was to make it through those deployments, being hit by IEDs, the fire fights the raids it only takes one bullet, one IED, now we must carry on for those who didn't make it back.

His reputation in the teams isnt the same as in public. Cause when you are responsible for the biggest fuck up in NSW history. And its pretty much fucking up basic level shit, and ignoring things told to you by the SMEs in the area. It kinda leaves a bad impression. Plus shooting another team guy in the chest in training doesnt exactly make you popular. One of the most telling things I heard during a Red Wings debrief from a Seal O was. "The good thing about Murphy being killed is we could give him the Medal of Honor instead of the court martial he deserved." Its the same thing as the Bravo Two Zero. They fucked up really bad also. But cool book and movie though. So Murphy should have had his bird pulled for shooting a guy. Didn't happen cause he was a officer. But that doesn't have much of a influence on the OP honestly. So lets start off they were told they weren't qualified to do the mission by Devgru SMEs. They decide to do it anyway. Can't really hold that against them to much. Aggresive personalities are going to take the mission. But they are told that 4 men is to small, 6 is minimum in the AO. They ignore it. They are told that communications are extremely difficult in the AO. Have sufficient back up comms and good no comms plans. They don't. They are told that the number one thing that will happen to them is they will have a soft compromise from locals and need to have a plan. They don't. They didn't even have any way to restrain them. Which is the worse part of this OP is Luttrel writes in his book they took a fucking vote in the field on something that should have been planned out well before the mission began. Then talks about possibly committing fucking war crimes in a best selling novel like its a regular fucking thing. Fucking madness here. Then one of the biggest Seal strengths is the fucking love of beltfeds and they don't bring one. Then to cap it off the insertion bird cuts the ropes which should have been a immediate cancellation of the op. And then they brought a unsanitized laptop in the field. @Lucifer whatever happened in the movie and book simply did not happen. Marcus did not get shot a bunch of times he was only shot one time by the ass cheek. They didn’t kill no taliban soldiers, there was only about 10 to 8 taliban soldiers. Marcus ran and hid from his fellow soldiers why they were getting ambushed. Marcus didn’t even fire one single bullet. The guy who saved his life Gulab claimed in his own book that Marcus Had 11 Full magazines and his weapon still with him. By no any means I’m calling this guy a coward but, he simply isn’t the hero that was portrayed in the movie. He simply hid and ran. Search up on KZbin “Operation Red Wings Ambush Footage” .it’s literally the movie but in real life recorded by the taliban. Only 8 taliban were present. You can also hear the 3 navy seals including Marcus screaming in the background.

The biggest problem I'm finding after reading ALL of the comments here is...the lack of punctuation. Misinformation, is a convoluted story in the simplest form! If there were more punctuation in these comments, it would be so much easier to understand the key point of each post. A lot of confusion, involved in the premise of each of these posts, is brought forth by the "lost in translation" factor that occurs in many of the heated replies. This, leads many to post a "knee-jerk" or often called, "shitting on" reply to the story, the protagonist, or both. That not only angers people, but also creates much confusion about what really did, or didn't happen in story! All that aside, this was a great podcast. Thanks Joe, for what you do, and much respect to Marcus Luttrell for being, what and who, you really are! I salute you both and...thank you Marcus, for your service!!

Period. Vietnam was a total joke. My dad was in it and says as much 45 years later. Gulf War I and II--total wastes of lives and money--especially Bush Jr's little daddy-revenge rampage which killed an estimated ONE MILLION Iraqi civilians. ONE MILLION. Imagine if ANY country did that to the people of the United States? What would be our response? It's time to stop celebrating these actions AND these PAWNS and instead ask ourselves: "Are we going to keep doing this? Are we going to continue pointless proxy wars and actions in SOVEREIGN countries and garner perpetual hatred and revenge for hundreds of years"? Or, maybe we can wake the fuck up and start being GOOD fucking people to others in the world. Stay out of their politics. Stop stealing their resources for our own greed.
