Horst Joe might be a smidge above average, just not a great guitar player, Sorry, their are so many more better players out there. Srv, bb king, muddy waters, evh, jb,
@LukeMaynard7 жыл бұрын
First of all, "there are," not "their are." Second of all, SRV, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King are no longer "on the planet," so, there's that. Third of all, I don't know what criteria you base your "smidge above average" on, but he's a guitar player's guitar player and has made a living for the last 30 years on nothing but technical skill. Maybe he's not your cup of tea, but that doesn't belittle his technical chops. You're opining and trying to pass your personal tastes off as objective fact and I'm not buying it. Fourth, you're comparing him to guitar players who are nothing at all like him. You might as well compare him to Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau, Tommy Emmanuel, Django Reinhardt, Mark Knopfler.... all truly great guitar players in their own individual ways, but so different artistically from each other that a blanket definition of "who's best" is impossible to ascertain. Every one of the above, I'm sure, Joe listens to and appreciates in his quest not to duplicate them, but to be the best player of his own style he can be. There's a reason professionals at that level stop caring about abstract measures of "who's best" and just enjoy each other's talents. "Better" and "worse" are amateurish evaluations of amateur-level players. From a certain perspective, people who can and do play exactly what the music they like calls for are all "perfect" musicians. That's true whether they're technically precise speed pickers like Malmsteen, blues benders with a limited lick repertoire but iconic timing and note placement like SRV and Clapton, flamboyant virtuosos who concentrate on the breadth of their trick bag like Satriani & Vai, or just working stiffs like Bruce Springsteen who bang the strings in time and in tune and drive a killer horn section, and for them that's what perfect is. Not sure if this was a troll comment or not, but I think Satriani's place in the guitar pantheon is no less secure for it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this might go down as one of the most perfectly executed, technically savage display of exceptional guitar mastery in live music history. Satch takes his audience to another dimension in that solo; there is something very raw, very visceral and very touching about how he exhibits his command over his instrument. His solos are not mechanical runs of scales and licks; rather they are melodious, stirring and hauntingly memorable with every note being right where it should be. They have soul. It's easy to see that the guitar is an extension of his body - he's in perfect communion with his instrument and his craft. He's got to be one of the BEST, (if not THE BEST) guitarist to walk this planet. Thank you for the music, Mr. Satriani... You're a legend in every sense of the word.

So many people say things like "Satch is all technique, blah, blah, cold, blah blah - I very much agree with your comments. I would add (after having seen him a few times "in the old days") that this is certainly one of the best, if not the best, bands I've ever seen him with. Dave Larue is a phenomenal bass player, and he's adding a lot to the music in the songs from this show by throwing in some very subtle notes played in all the right places. Saw him with the Dregs. The drummer is killing it too. They're all in sync, and it makes for some of the musically best Satch listening. The song "Circles" from this show is my favorite.

There are alot of great guitarists on this planet, but this song is just one example of how the Satch is great at an entirely new level. Take a bow Mr. Satriani.....you deserve to be titled king of the electric guitar. Holy S#$t. This song gives me goosebumps and makes my eyes well up just like the title of the song. Totally unbelievable level of connection to his instrument. WOW!!! I have been a fan for a long time and will be for life! I am honored to have seen him live. It changed my life.

You stole the words from my mouth. I saw him live at the Hult Center in Eugene Oregon during the Surfing With The Alien tour and it forever changed me. Satch is without a doubt one of the very best guitarists in the world ever! His music needs no words. They are all spoken from his guitar. Unbelievable awesome musician. Fan for life here!

I'm from Bangladesh, a small south eastern country. We've had great talent in rock & metal music But we don't have an "industry". Live sound production in concerts remains our greatest weakness. I watch this gig, I'mamused every time! This sounds way better than studio album.

Similar story here. I've been playing guitar since 2000, but I occasionally have long periods where I lose interest for a while (anywhere from a few months to over a year), in which I don't play, practice, write songs, etc. I don't pick the guitar up at all and feel no desire. I feel "empty" inside, musically speaking. A few years ago, I began to listen to Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, and Buckethead obsessively. It quickly filled me with inspiration and I began playing the guitar again obsessively. Made me strive to be better and better too. Listening to the music of these guitar virtuosos, thinking: "I NEED to be able to play and write songs this good. It's a must."

Haven't read through all 6.7K comments, so maybe I'm repeating someone. Yet, one must also aknowledge what kind of phenomenal musicians JS has gathered around him. They create the magic carpet, which Satch-Master is flying on, bedazzling earth and sky with his unique, one of a kind musicality. So, hats off to the band as well!
