Joe, the Crucible company, here in the USA might be closing or at least filling for bankruptcy… so CPM 3v might not be available too long. This totally sucks, because CPM steels are probably the best steels made!
@joexАй бұрын
thats a good information! thanks!!!!
@14845445Ай бұрын
the composition of 3v and other cpm steels ist public, companies like erasteel, carpenter technologies, ellwood quality steels, universal stainless and more will provide the same high-quality products and the same exact chemistries. steel dealers already know it, and will buy from other companies, there will be no shortings in supply chain. also it is important to note, that crucible is making efforts to get back into business during their actual process. they still have orders and continue to process everything they can.

The type of bankruptcy to reorganize and survive. Hopefully. But yeah there is a risk

Hopefully it’s a reorganization under our new government administration. Hopefully if these other companies actually make a hard effort too they can force some of the prices to drop too. Knives bought in America that are made in America should be cheaper, unless your that overpriced company “Benchmade “.

This guy is showing ghe strength of the knives and materials. But no one in their right minds would put their knife through this. Especially with the price of some of these knives. But some of the knives he tests are absolutely awesome. The trail master was not designed to spit logs. Even cavemen knew thus, its why they invented axes! But this guy shows what knives don't break. The knife did great given the full flat grind with a thin behind the edge geometry. The grain structure looks perfect. A lot of other makers will make the blade much thicker behind the edge to avoid warranty issues in case of abuse but they do not slice nearly as well as trail master. If you look at 1800s Sheffield bowies you will see similar geometry with thick spines and very thin behind the edge profile because the customers wanted a knife that can cut and slice well.

Another thing that shows me how much stronger the bear claw is than the TM is the blade thickness. Bear claw is just under a 1/4" and the TM is 5/16". Most people would normally cut and chop with knifes. Here they will see it as benefit. Already the abuse on the car was insane and very unrealistic but it did well there. So what is your complain here? That you cant hit rocks with the spine of the blade? Who will ever want to do that?

Now my problem is I got into a dispute with a knifetuber who says he has a fake Espada XL to destroy. My issue being, how does he know it's fake? His knife has some QC issues that could be down to the overall downgrade on "genuine" CS products. So at some point some of the clones will be better quality than the genuine GSM product?! Marlboro!

You do realize that they could adjust the heat treat and make them not so hard. I have a fehrman extreme judgment in 3v and its 57-59 hrc. The trailmaster is 61 hrc. My fehrman can flex and also the bte and overall thickness and fine point has a lot to do with it breaking. Geometry and heat treat play a way bigger part in toughness than the steel itself if the worktuff ares were made out of well heat treated 3v it would be basically indestructible.

Wow! First hit on the spine! That's problematic for how pricey it is. There are *lot* of options at this pricepoint, getting close to CPK price territory, and over what one might be able to get an Ares for. I expected more from Cold Steel's treatment of 3V, and it could also be a geometry problem. Great performance...from JOE X!
@mikeboyce21Ай бұрын
Comparing the ares is not apples to apples, the bte on the ares is insane. It's over 50 thousandths. Not to mention it's overall thickness throughout the blade it doesn't taper like the trailmaster and lastly the very fine tip compared to the basically non existent tip on the ares. The geometry couldn't be any more different.

This knife performed well at what it was designed to do well at. I'm sure even GSM could have redesigned the blade to keep the thickness all the way to the blade with a small grind and bevel. Instead of the flat grind. And the tip could have been a modified for strength. It could have possibly held up to more of the abusive tests. But when all of you keyboard "knife experts" ran out and bought it because it held up to the tests. You would soon find out that what you had was a sharpened pry bar that had no real knife qualities. Sure, you could go out and find some stones or steel pipes that you could beat on until your hearts content. But when you needed to process wood for a fire, or field dress an animal for food. Or many of the other things you need an actual knife for. you would be very disappointed. The Trailmaster has been around since the late eighties for a reason. And CPM 3V steel has been great for what it's designed for. I would take this exact knife in the woods or on the trail anytime. Without any worries what soever. Because I understand the assets and limitations of this knife and steel. Sure, GSM has been a letdown recently. But I believe this is a very good knife that is being misunderstood by most of the viewers in the comments.

True.

One of the most logical comments on here. The blade geometry has to be considered with these tests. I knew the narrow tip was going to break on the Trailmaster when lateral pressure was applied at its weakest point. As youve stated, that tip was also designed to field dress and do intricate tasks as well as stabbing and combat. You always have to give up something, If the blade is robust with a wide thick tip, and it was the only blade on you , you would hate the thing by the end of the day when you had to struggle to use it for routine camp, utility and bushcraft chores. Trailmaster has been tried and true and can do just about anything in a pinch. This 3V has incredible edge retention as we see minimal damage from the car and the nail. El Bricko eats high rockwell treatments for lunch and under no circumstances would there ever be a need to apply that kind of abuse. The man ACTUALLY stabbed through the windshield and started cutting the glass like it was cardboard or something LOL😅 .

The tip break was to be expected. Its a nice usable tip that is relativly fine . Also one should not forget that the amount of leverage put to it due to the overall length is huge... That back spine hit that broke the blade was maybe not expected, but after what he put that knife in before - and that the amount of force created by the high mass and weight oft that blade is pretty high I would not rule out that knife. For a big knives that most will use for chopping CS might consider stepping the rockwell hardness one step back. But actually I think it did pretty well. I am over 60 and used knives my whole live for hunting, work and outdoors. People do not get it - Joe is entertaining, but what he does has nothing to do with real life knife use , not even with very hard real life knife use. Any blade with a nice cutting geometrie and hardened to the point that we say it has good edge retention will break with this kind of abuse. And to consider a knife to be good or not has many, many aspects .. To judge if a knife is good or not and to buy it or not upon Joe's destruction tests shows that some people probably do not know sh.t about knives and all they do is fart in their chairs while sitting at their computers.

With 3v being rated 9/12 in toughness (KSN) I am surprised the steel wasn’t more forgiving. I was expecting more bending/warping over the fractures, but this is considered extreme abuse of a knife. The Gerber Strongarm’s steel (420HC) is rated just as high in toughness as 3v and it survived everything; it’s much cheaper too. Thank you Joe, for doing all the things I’d never do to my knives. You’re the reason why I bought a Strongarm.

Hm, hat es leider nicht ausgehalten. In der Länge scheint es schwierig zu sein, ein gutes Stabiles Teil zu finden, was dir nicht gleich die Hose runterzieht am Gürtel. 😀
