It's been a while since I've listened to Joey's music, but it's so cool to come back and hear the sophisticated sound and style he's cultivating. This piece would be indicative of class and refinement in a musician of any age, but for him to be at this age and composing like this is incredibly revealing. Can't wait to hear where his music goes in times to come

Очень давно не было ничего от Александра. Видимо, оттачивал мастерство и взрослел. И это ему удалось во всех смыслах. Прекрасное исполнение. It's been a long time since there was anything from Alexander. Apparently, he honed his skills and grew up. And he succeeded in every sense. A wonderful performance.

Very tasty, with a more appeal to the popular ear than, say, "Giant Steps." Love the pocket and the voicings. Hard core jazzers shouldn't get upset, just think of the tasty stuff Herbie wrote! And no, I don't think Joey is going the way of, say, Kenny G, as far as pandering to the popular.

Joey's style of playing is very similar to that of the late jazz pianist, michel petrucciani.
@LarryLatham1014 жыл бұрын
Well, I can see why fans might have similar reactions to these two artists: it's hard to believe either of them can play as wonderfully as they do, given their circumstances. But Petrucciani and Joey Alexander play with totally dissimilar circumstances. I don't see the style of playing as particularly similar, but watching either of them is fascinating because they are both so great. One watches with one's mouth open in surprise.

I am so happy to hear this incredible talent. Such feel and emotion ,not just copying technique of the masters. You just can't teach what this young man has been born with. I feel blessed to live in an era to see him. Swing on young man, you carry the torch.
@yacineleforestier29544 жыл бұрын
have to disagree with all other comments: I find Joey‘s own compositions and this one as well pretty disappointing so far. It‘s early days, he‘s very young and talented but he‘s obviously struggling to move from the extraordinary player and interpret of famous jazz standards, that made him famous, to the next stage, meaning creating his own tunes, finding his own way and identity. This composition and others sound like nice background jazz but not more than that. It lacks purpose and striking melodies.
@LarryLatham1014 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you. Joey is a wonderful talent, and plays way above his years. love to watch him. I will continue to come back to him many times, have loaded many of his videos on my computer and visit them often. However, his composing does not yet show the maturity of, say, a Herbie Hancock or a John Coletrane. But let's give him time to develop his compositional style. His stuff is not "bad" but you get the impression it could be better, and I'm willing to bet that he knows that probably more than most of his fans. I don't want to leave the feeling that I'm not impressed with him. I'm enormously impressed. I see him as a top level jazz pianist. But he is yet to develop as a top jazz composer. We'll all see what time can do.
