I think the main reason Under The Tree comes off as what you described is due to the fact of it being from Mikasa's point of view. Her perspective of events unfolding in the story is a lot more emotional and light compared to The Rumbing, Eren's point of view.

I think the problem with this song is that it's by SIM, we had great expectations when we heard there's a new song by SIM, and wanted something like Rumbling.. It is still a cool song, if only it didn't end after "I'll protect you".. Mikasa is not an innocent sweetheart after all, I'm sure she's many Yeagarists' nightmare, so she deserved a crazier, more hyped song too

bro Joey u fkn stole the words out of my mouth with the first impressions.. melody was great , the rock elements reminded of linkin park .. which was good.. lyrics were too shallow imo and i was expecting it to hit a bit harder considering the emphasis on Mikasa... on listening to it few more times i appreciate the rock elements the most but yeah overall underwhelming.
