It's not a waste of time. It's rather refreshing seeing the honesty in a repair attempt that goes like this. Not all of these are repairable, certainly not from a point of being cost effective. Cheers, and keep doing what you do!

at 17:06 when you replaced the IC the part number was originally 1D7T and was replaced with a Y18K8. not sure if they are the same chip labeled differently or close enough specs wise not to make a difference.
@jekojelqzkov70849 ай бұрын
Hello, he had explained in another video that there is no problem to replace just another series motherboard but it does the same job, the funny thing is that Joey does not see that he puts the chip in the wrong direction and that's where the problem comes from, and he has already done it once 😅

My 2 cents of help :) At 28:04 that 1D7T chip seems to be a linear regulator from 3.3V down to 1.8V. It seems that that left bottom pin is an "enable" pin and it should have 1.8V or 3.3V in order for the output 1.8V to be present. Maybe trace that via to it's origin and see what causes it to not be at a "high" level. Maybe a blown resistor or some other regulator?...

Joey, I understand your feelings. Like making things worse during repair and being not able to resolve the initial issue 😔 Done this to macbooks and iphones a couple of times. I am sure you will fix this PS5 after you get more practice and knowledge. Just leave it on the “no fix for now” shell 🙂

I dont know if Im wrong but when you replaced the encoder IC the ground pad doesnt have too much solder. Maybe isnt making a good contact with ground due to the lack of solder.

I have a PS5 with similar issues. No power on at all. Found shorts on hdmi encoder and WiFi if. Swapped components, no shorts but no power. I do not have the 3.3 coming out of that IC going through the board to the other IC that goes to the hdmi encoder. Can’t find any other shorts and as far as I can tell that 3.3 is the only voltage missing 🤷🏻♂️

I like that you edit in the live stream footage; it’s cool to follow a repair across its whole life. If I’m honest, the non-repair is a bummer to watch - real anticlimax. Tough because you spent so much time on it.

I've always wondered, how do you know the component code when replacing a part of which you don't have a spare one for? What do you enter on Google?
@nheather9 ай бұрын
My cynical mind reckons that the seller/repairer was a little cheeky - I think they were unable to fix but have enough skills to leave that ribbon cable disconnected so that the console presents as no power, no lights, no beeps - which as you keep telling us, is a desirable, optimistic, set of symptoms for would-be buyers.

Are 1DT's the same as the YK0's? I would swear I saw 2 instances where you removed a 1DT and replaced with a YK0.

I wonder why you don't use an oscilloscope to check if there's a signal coming into the encoder chip and out of it. That would save you a lot of needless swapping of chips.

This looks like a broken trace to me … I know you’re looking with a microscope, but I’d be comparing traces with a donor board, or better, a working board. Especially since someone else was in there that obviously didn’t know what they were doing. It’s a shame we don’t have schematics for these things yet.

Hi Joey. I enjoy watching your videos, but I do have a minor nitpick with this series. I started watching the series somewhere in the 50s. Near the end, you show whether the item was fixed or not and potential profit/loss. The problem is that if you see the list, you know that the last few repair attempts were successes or failures, so it removes some of the interest in watching the previous videos if you are just tuning in.

Good video but you did way too much. You changed so many things, so many times, it is hard to even know if they were faulty or not. Or you damaged them later. Your first bet should be to test the hdmi port with a breakout board to determine if the port is faulty first. Then test the hdmi encoder data and filter lines, caps for shorts or opening. Then I'd consider replacing stuff. You might have spent all that time just because of a bad port or cap. Also I'd avoid consoles that have been opened before as those on Ebay are most of the time unrepairable and should be bought for parts.
