I'm astounded that PS5 is working, that liquid metal everywhere was like a conductive horror movie. This series is so much fun and gave me the confidence to work on my own Switch and other trickier soldering. I'd love a quick guide video or two on things you've learned, like the right tip for different jobs, using a multimeter to troubleshoot, maybe top 10 helpful items on your bench. So many guides assume existing experience, whereas you started from square one and we've been on that journey with you.

Try a solder sucker for liquid metal, put a bit of tissue in it, that should get it from under chips/between caps/etc.

Not sure if you do controller repairs but yesterday I purchased a Red PS5 controller from Cash Converters in Shirley, Southampton (knowing you are fairly local) for £20 that had a R2 issue where it wasn't working and within 15 minutes of disassembling to check for physical issue where there wasn't and then reassembling to find that the R2 was actually working fine. Whilst I love my Xbox Elite series 2 controller this £20 PS5 controller is a great addition where they normally sell for around £40-£50 secondhand.

The SOC on the Switch is married to the nand. You can use donor prod keys, but that would require you installing a mod chip. The donor prod keys would cause the device to be banned from using internet connected services.

Love it! Never thought I would subscribe to a channel with a guy who just solders over and over, but I keep coming back for more. At the end of this season, you should make a bill listing with the unfixable items and sell them as a lot, then add the sale price to the total season P&L. Keep it up Joey, only been watching for 9 months but your skills have taken leaps and bounds in that time alone.

Good to see a profit on that PS5, I thought it was a total goner after seeing the condition of the liquid metal! Methinks part of the liquid metal was shorting components together, which is why it is better to use thermal paste instead (even if it has worse cooling abilities). IMO, Sony should have designed this console to use thermal paste instead. Also, I guess the replacement parts were taken from donor consoles that were recently from minus episodes?

I have done a lot of Gamegear's, MD2's, and SNES's, and my hit rate is about 70%. The Game Gear is particularly bad for faulty displays and spares are very hit and miss unless you go with something like a McWill then you get very few people who will stump up the money when they are done - that launchpad should be a simple fix

The Nintendo lites are so cheaply made. I highly the palkia edition beginning of this year and I hated the feel of it. Sold it and bought the 32GB switch for an extra £100 and it’s totally worth it. Especially since you can hook it up to your tv.
