What was excepted in the 60s and 70s is poles a part from today particularly with race and sexuality. The difference between Ali and Fury as world champions, Ali fought every credible opponent of his era, he’d talk shit but would fight. Fury defence as a world champion has been pathetic and he’s not fit to clean Ali’s boots let a lone tie them and people compare them. I think Usyk is even past his prime now, the first AJ fight was the best of him in terms of movement in and out of range. As you guys mention his lateral movement has somewhat lessened, but yet again so is Fury's movement. If this fight was made 2 years ago we would have gotten an even better fight imo
@MediaTextReviewer5 ай бұрын
Maybe Usyk's movement has decayed, but then again, I got the sense that his strategy was to plant his feet with Fury more than he would in some other fights. Fury taunted him as a "jumped up middleweight" who would "run rabbit, run" and just spring around and try to tag Fury and win on points without getting stuck in. The tough Ukrainian champion with over 300 amateur fights (and trust me, amateur fights tend to be scrappy as fuck) was out to prove that he could stand and trade with the bigger guy, bully him into corners, and even knock him around the ring like a pinball (and to be fair, that's exactly what he did XD). He wanted to stand his ground and go mano-a-mano in this one. Fury pissed him off for years building up to this fight.

Jeff Mayweather and Ricky Hatton both say that FURY made the same mistake of trying to out box a more skilled boxer - too much movement, FURY should have planted his foot and used his power the first 6 rounds and than used his weight to smother UYSK the last half.

He definitely looked better when he was on the front foot.

Fury learnt from wilder’s first fight and was another fighter in the next two; Fury can transform in that way for the rematch.

The rules state that when the boxer is no longer standing without support of the ropes it is to be treated as a ten count not a standing eight. The referee is correct.

Usyk had fury beat even before a foot was set in the ring

Brian, Fury's chin is completely shot - in David Price territory. Look at the gameplan - it was to disengage and avoid mixing it with Usyk. He can't put it on Usyk like he did vs wilder 2 because his team know his punch resistance is GONE

I like that the ref stepped in and treated it like a knock down Instead of stopping it! It WAS a knock-down, he just fell into the ropes so the Ref did well there and there's no Froch V Groves controversy. This was champ vs champ but generally when it's a champion vs a challeneger and its a close fight I prefer to see the champion retain. You should have to beat a champion clearly and decisively to take what he earned and Usyk did that!

Saved him 1 more shot he was out. Usyk showed alot of control not firing another combo

You know what i agree in hindsight? Just wish ref just let Fury go till he dropped, or recovered. I know by the rules he had count him as the road kept him up. What a fight. And fair play to Fury man.

He was held up by the ropes seven times in that round 🤣 I'll call it a 10-3 round!

It’s taken until this fight for people to realise, that actually usyk is very much a pressure fighter. His cruiser weight career deceived some people fighting gassev & briedis and then chisora at HW

Lets not forget how well Usyk took the ref stepping in. And how he has respectfully talked about that too. It's not bothered him whatsoever. I truly believe he believes and knows he could do it all over again.
@Maroon4985 ай бұрын
Usyk will never be beaten he’s just too good for everyone. He’s clocked boxing in the best way possible and he is not slowing down at all. Who else has done what he’s done. His resume is something else. He will beat Fury in the rematch and he will drop down to Cruiserweight and dominate that division again, because he will be back down to the weight he’s comfortable at and he’ll be more mobile again, which will give him that even quicker speed. Make all the excuses you want. Too good. Special boxer. One of the true greats if not the greatest.

i totally agree, i've been a boxing fan for 50 years and i've never seen anything like him, he's a very special fighter, boxing need this man.

What’s peoples opinions on what happens from here? Let’s say hypothetically usyk wins the rematch, what kind of state does it leave the heavyweight division in from here and what kind of matchups do we even get from this point?
@souldry5 ай бұрын
Check the punch stats. AJ landed on Usyk more than Fury did. Total shots, power shots, etc. And no, Fury wasn’t Usyk’s toughest fight. Breidis was.

The fact Fury was so surprisingly competitive against Usyk makes me wonder how great a boxer Fury could have been if he fully committed to boxing and lived a clean healthy disciplined life like Usyk instead of this part time boxer, part time celebrity, part time training, ballooning up and down in weight mishmash of a setup surrounded by clowns like John. Like... rounds 4-7 were almost one way traffic for Fury imho. He started getting the measure of Usyk's aggressive pressing style and was punishing his advancing style with thudding body shots, long sharp jabs and some big uppercuts. Usyk was backed up at times, blowing hard, the aggressive ambition in rounds 1-3 knocked out of him and we genuinely thought it was starting to look like a mismatch and a heavyweight vs a middleweight. Then credit where credit is due, Usyk says f that, ain't going down like that, and went all-in to get at big Fury and he did, smashing his nose and then that insane 9th round. Too much idiotic showboating from Fury too. Just get on with it.
@RiaNash-o3s5 ай бұрын
But that defines greatness many boxers have potential but not the discipline, n discipline makes a great boxer, fury used his size to bully the heavy weight division, most fighters are at a automatic disadvantage with fury, in terms of skill fury is a good boxer but usyk is exceptional, so fury could get away with most fights based on his height and weight advantage, which is why he avoided Joshua n suffered against nganou, fury can take a punch but not combinations , wilder was a one punch trick, n fury bullied him with his weight, but when fury is up against pure skill he has no answer
@derickfrancis52015 ай бұрын
Im not a fan of fury but i agree if he had lived a cleaner life and been more dedicated he could have been unbeatable in this era at least.
