One of all-time greats. He showed tremendous mental toughness during his playing days, while he dealt with racism, fans yelling out racial slurs towards him, being treated like a convict, etc. Branche Rickey, Pee Wee Reese and some of his teammates treated him like family throughout those tough times and they really helped him remain humble and level headed. Alan Tudyk, who played as Ben Chapman (the late manager for the Philadelphia Phillies who continuously yelled out racial slurs towards Robinson everytime he's at the plate) said that playing Carson was the most difficult role he ever played. Jackie Robinson was very humble and respectful and having the league retire his number 42 was well deserved

Why couldn’t he have been rested in our hometown of Cairo, GA? It’s where a legend was born.

I hate to be pedantic, but he is actually buried in Glendale, Queens. The entrance to the cemetery is in Brooklyn, but by the time you get to Jackie Robinson's grave you have crossed over into Queens.

Not true he's on the brooklyn side of of the jackie Robinson highway...(I work there) it's such a great honor to have him at our cemetery
