It's a grift. Get the man in front of a judge. This is a normal claims process. With the amount he's claiming its a small claims case which will go to county court. Get a good solicitor and have them reclaim your court fees and counter sue. It'll take months for it to reach hearing. The process is initially intimidating because its unknown, but its nothing to be frightened of. When the court arrange your mediation. Reject any request to settle. It'll go to hearing and you both present your case. If you counter sue the claimant has to pay your court fees if the case gets struck out. To be frank I'm disappointed the County Court Business Centre let this proceed.
