This is so excellent-thank you so much, not many videos show what to do with those ends especially when you only change the color for just one row like a thin stripe with contrast yarn!!!

Nancy Wynn I tried your beautiful method. I need to try it a few more times as you said to really get it down right. I am knitting navy and grey striped socks and using a small circular needle- it is difficult for me to visualize the stitch anatomy on the back. I think it’s the best method I have ever seen though and I am grateful for your instructions. I have subscribed to your blog and look forward to learning from you. Thank you very much🌷🌷♥️ 🧶 ☘️

Nancy - I continue to be amazed and so very grateful for all of the helpful videos you have made and shared with the rest of the knitting community. This video has been great because I was concerned with how to best weave my ends to keep the pattern looking good and not having any holes. Thanks so much for showing both techniques. Please know - I'm a member (and Administrator) of a few knitting groups on Facebook. When people have questions about how to do a particular technique I always refer them to your channel or give them a link to a specific video you have done. Thank you for being my reliable teacher. I feel like we've become friends since I spend so much time with you!! Thanks again!!!

I love your videos, and find them so much easier to understand and follow than any others. I have a question that seems so basic, but I can't find and answer to. I'd like to know the BEST way to join a new ball of yarn when knitting on circulars. I'm not worried about the jog…just adding a ball of new yarn to the project. Thanks so much for all your videos, and I hope, and answer. :)
@WynnKnit10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane! Thank you so much for your kind comments and support of my knitting videos. In my opinion, the best way to add new yarn is the Russian Join, however, it only works well with wool. If I can't use a Russian Join, I add new yarn by working 2 stitches and then knitting the 3rd stitch with the old and new yarn. I've never had a problem with it - no matter how bulky the yarn is! The trick is how carefully you sew in the ends when you're done. I have a video on both methods....try them both and let me know what you think. Hope I answered your question.
@janek153410 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Nancy! I'm so glad to hear from you. I feel like I know (and very much like!) you already! The backstory-my question had to do with needing to knit on a circular needle from two balls simultaneously, alternating, because I was planning to knit a poncho, and there was quite a difference in color between skeins that were the same dye lot. Luckily, the difference didn't show up, and I was glad because it seemed like it was going to be very hard to inconspicuously switch off and do two rounds with two skeins at a time, alternating. I couldn't believe the complicated instructions I found for doing this, and the more ideas I read about on the subject, the more difficult it sounded. Thank you for your answer and for your wonderful videos! Yours are always my first stop when I need to figure out a new technique. Best wishes, Jane

When you do a stripe pattern using 8 different colors and doing only 2 rows of each color sequence how do you advise carrying all those colors up the side or would you do a lot of loose ends to weave in?
@WynnKnit12 жыл бұрын
Because you referred to "rows" when describing your striped pattern, I am assuming that you are knitting back and forth. If that's the case, I would absolutely carry the yarns up the side. Just remember to always bring the new color from under the old color - this will always keep them twisted properly. Did I answer your question?
@maryalgar87798 жыл бұрын
Awesome Nancy. Just what I needed. I saw another tutorial demonstrating same technique, but then they kept moving their marker over one stitch to the left, so that the "elongated stitch" (from the part stitch you picked up and knit with the first stitch) kept moving over so not so visible.
@maryalgar87798 жыл бұрын
I agree Jo. But I was doing a toddler sweater that just had two stripes near bottom of sweater (i.e. not all the way up the sweater), so I chose to try it. Did it make much of a difference - not really. Thanks for your input.

Your video is so clear that I am embraced that I am having such trouble. I think that I am following your directions but when I knit the two loops the loop of the new color slips under the old color. That leaves a loop on the wrong side of the new color and the front is just a knitted stitch of the old color. That creates the jog just one stitch over from the marker. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Do you some idea? Thanks
@WynnKnit9 жыл бұрын
+Berit Larson I'm sorry that you are struggling with this. I wonder if you are picking the right leg of the old color? If you're doing that correctly and then knitting it together with the first stitch of the color round, it will automatically fall to the back. Please keep trying, I really think you are missing one tiny little step. Please keep me posted.

On your video you show how you bring UP the right stitch from below and knit the two colors as one. DO you need to do that at the end/beginning of EVERY round?
@WynnKnit7 жыл бұрын
HI Tee! Thanks for watching my video. To answer your question; No you do not have to do that on every round. It's only done on the first color change round. Once done, you would then work the necessary pattern rounds and then change the color as instructed. At that point you would work the jogless color change maneuver again. I hope I answered your question. : - )
@LizKS4811 жыл бұрын
How do you do this "jog" when you're purling? After the knit row, starting with the next color, I have to purl three rows.
@WynnKnit11 жыл бұрын
Hi Liz, I must be loosing it as totally forget to reply to your comment ; - ( Actually I do the same maneuver with the purl stitch that I do with the knit stitch, however I do sometimes need to tweak it a bit more on the WS when I'm sewing in my ends. Never the less, it works. Thanks for contacting me ; - )
@maryalgar87798 жыл бұрын
Nancy, instead of cutting yarn before changing to new colour, is there a nice method of carrying the yarn "up" the work in the back? Especially if striping is going to be ongoing? P.S. I love your authoritative and yet kind voice and instruction.
@WynnKnit8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary and thank you for your comments. As far as carrying the yarn, yes you can do that but it often creates cosmetic problems. Because you're pulling the yarn upwards, it puts stress on the primary stitch which in the end will cause it to be misshaped. What you might want to do instead is continue to cut your yarn then knit your ends in while you work your round. I don't have a video on it under that name but if you watch my video on Fair Isle Knitting and how to trap the floats, you'll learn how to do it. You knit the ends in exactly the same manner as I "trap" the floats on the video. I probably should get a video done for that technique but it really is identical to what I do on the Fair Isle Video. I hope I answered your question and thanks again for watching my videos. : - )

So what if your hat pattern is seed stitch?
@WynnKnit8 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but when working the seed stitch, go ahead and purl it but if the wrong color shows through, knit the stitch instead and return to the pattern on the next stitch. In the end it won't be that noticeable
