@jboyce98 No - it doesn't add a stitch, because you are already knitting two together. When you pull the old color up from the row below, you knit that together with the first stitch of the new color. No extra stitch added!

@paparazzimama This technique works when you are working in the round using purl stitch, or in garter stitch. It is just more obvious and easy to see the results in stockinette.

Thank you so much for this video! I was looking at other videos and they were all so complicated that I was just giving up and letting the jogs happen. Also, it was fantastic to hear about your knotting, I'm a beginner knitter just experimenting in the round and I find it almost impossible to add a color seamlessly without a knot. Thank you!

@maryb8185 You only do this correction once (for every time you change color). Work the first round normally, then do this trick on the first stitch of the second round.
@verypinkknits14 жыл бұрын
@ShadowVampira It should work with any stitch you're working. If you're doing reverse stockinette, I would try picking up the stitch from the "wrong" side of the work. If you're doing garter stitch, I would experiment to see what looks best.

Thanks for this. I used the technique on 2-row-stripe mitts knit in the round, but I don't know if I am crazy about it, for that particular application, as I ended up with a "pattern" similar to a chain stitch, running up the edge of the mitten. I can see it working, for me, better in perhaps another project. Just my quirk! So, saying that, I will try Helix knitting for my next set of in-the-round mittens. Really appreciate all you do for all of us knitters on all levels of the learning scale. My favourite Staci technique(s)? "Provisional cast-on, toe up, German short row" socks. The absolute BEST design, easily adaptable to size & yarn changes.

Yes - while this stitch is always successful in stockinette stitch (knitting every round), it doesn't always help when you're working garter stitch rounds (knit a round, purl a round). I usually find that it depends on the yarn and gauge I'm using. You may decide that your work looks better not using this technique. It's always worth a try, take a look, then decide if you're going to use this technique in garter rows or not.
@verypinkknits14 жыл бұрын
@ienketube You know, I've never used this trick for switching from stockinette to garter while knitting in the round, but I do always use it when I switch from stockinette to moss stitch (the difference being that the first stitch of moss stitch is a K). Give it a try and see how it looks. You'll be able to tell if it's helping right away.

@janericciardi Hmm...you might not like my advice for a one-round stripe. :) I would personally make it at least two rounds, because one round is going to have a prominent jog that you can't correct.
@aviscanis11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, Staci. Wondering if this technique would work when I'm knitting stockinette in the round and the pattern calls for 1 round of purls before continuing in stockinette. The purl round will jog, too. Appreciate your help, thanks! Debbie
@verypinkknits11 жыл бұрын
Yes - this technique can work with purl rows in stockinette knitting, but it depends. I usually give it a try, and see if I like the look with or without the correction. The yarn, the gauge, the pattern - that can all make a difference.
@aviscanis11 жыл бұрын
VeryPink Knits Great! I feel encouraged and will give it a try. Many thanks, Debbie

Hi, By doing this wouldn't the seam start to pull? Thanks for the video.
@verypinkknits14 жыл бұрын
@Kazpersmami No - this technique only improves the look of your work, and doesn't cause any pulling. Also, since you are knitting in-the-round when you do this technique, there is no seam.

I am making a checkerboard pattern baby hat. it calls for 4 rows of K4P4 and then 4 rows of P4K4. If I change colors every 4 rows (to match the checkered blocking) what '1st leg' do i pick up in the purl stitch. i see it clearly on the k4p4 rows but not the 1st stick of the p4k4 rows which is just a purl bump.

Does this method of jogless color change require a readjusting of the placement of the beginning of the new round each time you change colors? I have seen another video on jogless color change, one that went into an issue about moving the beginning of the round. At that point the instructions were so confusing that I disregarded them and have continued using your recommended method. But the question still occurs to me from time to time. Thanks, Staci.

Thank you for this video. I’m working on a hat with two color alternating stockinette. I got to row 4/8, picked up the second leg, continued to knit and my pattern is now off. I’ve dropped the starting stitch multiple times and can’t seem to fix the issue. The wool is starting to puff and I worry I’m going to have to unravel the color work to the ribbing. Can you help?! Thank you.
@crispappletart11 жыл бұрын
I've always used this method for preventing color jogs, but in the pattern I'm working on currently it says to slip the first stitch of the second row. I tried it, and it does work...but I don't think it looks as nice or smooth as this method. What do you think?
@KnottyDeer3 жыл бұрын

Hi, Staci I’m knitting another Frango Sampler Scarf. I started the 8th section (tan) but the last row of the navy section (a purl) looks wonky when I tried to do the jogless color change doing a k2t with the navy purl st - it leaves a bump instead of a smooth knit stitch. Do I pull the tan tail to the front & try to cover the navy bump?

I have a question; sorry if it's a bit of silly one but when knitting Fair Isle patterns or just doing a single-row stripe, would you still do the same thing? Let's say you just knitted a stripe in your MC, and now want to switch to a CC, would I pick up the stitch below and knit it (and the first stitch of the next row) with the MC or the CC, or just what the pattern asks for? Not sure I explained myself well there but ... thanks either way! :s
@verypinkknits11 жыл бұрын
Fares - you can work this trick any time you see a jog in your circular knitting that you want to correct. A one-row stripe probably wouldn't work, since the trick is worked on the second row of the new color. It isn't usually necessary in fair isle knitting, since the colors in fair isle change often enough to keep there from being a pronounced jog at the beginning of the row. If you're in doubt, you can always try it, and see if it improves the look of your knitting.

All right! Thanks a lot for the feedback. :)

Could you do this but with one row of a new color for like 5 rows… for example I have a brim of k2p2 for 8 rows and then 10 regular stockinette rows all of one solid color… now let’s say’s I want to do one row of red, then one row of Orange, then one row of yellow, then green… etc… how do we resolve the gap for changing stripe colors every row… I can’t seem to find a video 🥺
@WormBabyZ10 жыл бұрын
So, do you only do this on the second row? Ie: Say I'm doing 2 color striping, with 7 rows of each. Would I do this for rounds 2-7, or just 2?

WormBabyZ - you only do this correction on Round 2 of the new color.

If I'm using sock yarn that is self striping, will this still work? I've never knit socks with self striping yarn but will be soon, so I'm guessing I will need to do this as well?

Self striping yarn does not require this kind of fix. It just naturally flows and looks great. If there is a problem with the look that you don't like when the colors change you could definitely give it a try.
